at Racefab's today,

stuck around long enough to see it all torn down.

doesn't look too bad,

hoping for just a freshening up, new rings, bearings, a hone and polish.

Thanks Fred, good to see ya again.

..........

I guess it's time to get the rest of the car in shape.

Nostalgia drags are what, like five or six weeks away?

I feel for ya man, just pulled the 427 from my green truck Saturday. Seized up tight and anti-freeze in the oil. Dropped a valve and broke the piston in #8. Mine is on a pallet now and will get tear down pics by Wednesday. I think your in better shape http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

ouch, that sucks.

worst part is not having a hot rod to jump into whenever ya want to tear it up.

haha ya think?

Fred may be doing a build series on the motor,

would be fun to watch it come together.

first off, thanks paul for staying and helping knock it apart, most guys just drop em off and say fix it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

today i cleaned up the parts and started recording some numbers

first i layed the crank back in and checked with a dial indicator for straightness

checks perfect

i then miked all the pistons

then set bore gauge and checked cylinder to piston clearance

next was to reinstall pistons and check to see if the block has been decked.

this block has been decked

all of these measurements have been recorded, and have given me a base line of what i am working with, all these measurements will be done again at reassembly

here is a cool tip for those of you taking your stuff in to be rebuilt, and you plan on using your valve train components. most times i get a box with everything thrown in
here is what paul did

i plastic baggie with cylinder number on it;

inside was 2 smaller plastic baggies.1 marked intake the othermarked exhaust, each containing the lifter, rocker, and pushrods for said cylinder. slick

thats it for today, tomorrow everthing goes into the machine shop. i want to get a torque plate bolted on it and take some more measurements before a honing decision is made

more in a couple of days
