Ok, just need a quick answer to this, more than likely, dumb question.
I am disasembling my 40 ford brakes in plans of having the backing plates chromed....I have everything off but the two top adjusting screws....
question is, are these removeable or no....if so how....it looks like there may be some kind of e-clip holding it in?????
Thanks.....

Leave them alone.
They are not removabe except by cutting. You would have to drill the adjuster off and reweld back onto the shaft after chroming. Good luck!

think i could get by and just chrome the backing plates with the adjusting screws still on.....??? that inner part will be painted....
I guess i could just chrome it and then tape off the chome and sandblast the chrome off in that area to be painted.....

I just went through the same thing on my 40 Ford rear backing plates. I did not want to go through the effort of diassembling the adjusters, so I just left the adjusters alone. There are minor imperfections of the plating at the recessed area at the base of the spring for the adjusters, although the spring and hex head plated fine. I had planned on painting the recess anyway.
It looks fine all assembled.
