I got my 389 [now a 395.5] home last week. Last Saturday, I took the e-bay dual quad setup over to my son's house and used his bead blaster to clean off the paint and skunge....thought I might take a photo of it and show you.
I'd painted it a tan color to go with the future paint scheme on my old 56 Safari. I'd planned to paint it a tutone candy, pearl green and tan or champangne. Now, I have a tan engine and a black car...I think it might work ok.
It's a '60, 389 + 0.030" with 10.25 flat top pistons. Has steel rods with the old poncho armasteel [nodular iron] crank and I'm using a ram-air 3 cam....308/320 degrees advertised........and rhoades lifters. So far the 60 heads are stock with a little cleanup and pocket porting. I'd like to score a pair of Edelbrock heads later.....
The AFB's are a pair of original 60 Pontiac units.

Back side........the mid-70's HEI just barely clears the intake and carbs...

Rocky,

Have you ever used the Rhodes lifters before or is this an experiment?

That's cool Rocky!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif I did not know you were doing another wagon type. Love those multi carb set ups too bad they keep skyrocketing in price. Saw a POS go for $350 on Sunday for SBC.

Looks good Rocky. I like the color, shouldn't be hard to spot any leaks when you fire it off. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ed...yeah, I've used the Rhoades lifters in several 389's before....really tames down a radical cam for street use at low R's and at higher rpms the engine comes alive! I like em. Troy, this is the car it's going in...can't type anymore.....tornado warning right now!

with those lifters, will a wild cam still have a lopey idle or does it tame that too?

Mine is wild enough to still have a little lope to it at idle but a guy could run this cam and lifters in an automatic car with power brakes and prolly be ok. It'll still lope at idle tho...
