Ever drill over your head while lying on your back and those red hot metal bits fall right in the eyes? Ground straps under the body come to mind.
Next time take a little paper cup and pop it on the drill bit. Catches all the metal and keeps it out of your eyes, hair and your carpet.
Drilling holes for scuff plates and seat brackets thru carpet has always been a pain in the ass.
Put the plate down and mark the holes with a peice of white chaulk. Heat up the ol' soldering iron and melt holes thru the carpet where you marked it. Now you can drill thru the holes without a big mess winding itself around the bit and it stops the carpet from fraying out later.
Kinda simple tips but may just take some of the pain and frustration outta making holes in your project.
