to a thread so that the link itself doesn't display the http address, but the name of the thread instead?

Example. Here is the link to the early Hemi Tech Index:
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118764

In the first post of that thread you see each subject listed. The subject title is actually THE LINK to the thread. The funny thing is, it's MY THREAD and I did that all by accident. I want to do it in another thread and have tried to cut and paste the format of the character line used to create those subject links and it just doesn't seem to work.

Hopefully I'm explaining this okay. Is the question clear as mud?? :o

copy the http address of the thread you want to lin to
then when you are drafting your post click on the world icon with the internet thingy
it will enter the adress in your text with a highlighted redundant adress

type your prefered text to replace the highlighted text
that will be the link

Thanks Paul!

Wow! That sounds complicated!

Let me try it couple times here...

Hemi (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=118764) Tech Index

UGGG!! Not working!! I just get the above link. Maybe I'm misunderstanding...

Here's what I did. I first copied the link. Next I clicked on the world icon with the chain link in it. Pasted the link into the blank line that pops up after clicking on the world icon. Clicked ok. That made the link show up. Okay, now here's where I'm confused. For grins I highlighted the link that shows up in the text and I started typing what I actually wanted it to say. Part of it remained underlined, but didn't link to anything. Also, you'll notice the original link doesn't seem to work either...

What am I doing wrong?

It doesn't give me the same format as you have shown there... Now it wouldn't be the first time someone called me retarded for overlooking something completely obvious, but I'm really not seeing the same format as you. I completely understand what you're doing though to get the result I'm after. I'll try posting this and then editing it to see if that works.

Okay, as you can see, it SORT of worked. For some reason it's not recognizing the link that I have cut and pasted. SO CLOSE! :( I'll keep trying to edit it.

BINGO! Cut and pasted the link directly form the page I was linking to. Now I know what the hell I'm doing! Thanks Paul!

Is there anyway to make this easier?? JEESSH!!

The trick is to post, then go back and "edit" so that format is visible. Oh yeah, you can't do it this way in your signature line either. You have to cut and paste the format from a normal thread you have done it in. Also, I noticed when you cut and paste the format to use it elsewhere and fill in the details you have to UN-link the underlined parts of the format or it won't show up right when you submit the changes.

That's it. Got if figure it out. Help it helped someone else too.

Cheers!
Scooter
