Newbie Here...with a barn find ?

Hi guys....thanks for having me.... I just bought a barn find that I found...yes they are still out there. 1933 Ford 5 Window..57 or 58 Hemi 392...4spd....4:11 open rear. That is what I know. I have a lot to learn about these things....but it was to cool to pass up. Anyways....laying in the seat is a W&H DuCoil Distributor for the 392. Previous owner says it is a rare and valuable part....well....that would be my first question for you guys...how rare is it?

Welcome from one FNG to another. Try somthing like photobucket.com to post pics, it makes it easier... there are several web sites that will let you do this for free.

Find? Right place at the right time. Actually I gave the him a 429 4V 11:1 many years ago if he would just come get it. I just stopped by there (after many many years) to look for a ported vacuum switch for one of my other four 1968-1971 muscle cars.... Well into the barn we go and there it was. He may have showed me ten years ago and I did not know what I was looking at then...cannot remember... Anyways we got to talking about it and it turned out he was interested in selling it after owning it for well over 20 years. So, I thought it over a bit, talked with the owner a bit (he is very knowledgeable), talked with some other rod guys, asked questions via the net to other people..and even forwarded pics to those selling rods on ebay to get their opinion of it before diving in....basically all those that know more about these than I do...told me if I was looking to ever get into rods...that this would be a very good car to start with...from the standpoint of what it is/has. So I took their honest advice and after a little sweet talking to the wife...she gave her blessing...but said she does not want to hear the word "car" or "cars" for the next year! Excited to get it ..but will be sad to take it from him if you will. Kinda his baby that he was always going to do...but has now lost ambition to actually do it...as he as aged. Not sure when I will get on it...but will move into heated storage..and I'm sure tinker a bit with it here and there as I have time.

Per your "qoute" section...I agree it is a Hot Rod....but I'm just going to use the HemiRatRod.....username anyways....what is important that another one will be saved....and that we are all in this hobby together....regardless of what we want to call our cars..... Hope I won't get beat up over it!:)

Thanks guys.....I'm happy with it and that is what counts...

While researching this thing, I actually had two local rod guys tell me they were not very impressed (with all the pictures I sent them), it will be alot of work, this is incorrect/that is incorrect...bottom line...you do not want to by that car.....both followed by "Where is it"

Thanks..... most of the car is paid off. In the meantime, I have picked up a correct grille and an old 4 duece Wieand Intake with 4 stromberg 48's for it. That should add a little more if you will to what it all ready has going for it. Have to get the wife a new deck before I bring this ole girl home though.....

I agree. I have told some about it....but not where it is. You just never know and I think a couple guys were trying to figure it out before so better to be safe with it. Not like it is a rare hemi cuda or something...but they are not laying around in every barn anymore.......
