mopar flathead question

i m looking at 1950 desoto with a flathead 6.is anything made for these motors in the line of speed equipment?it also has fluid drive which i know nothing about.all my mopars are the 383 type so fill me in , thanks

Mopar made those for aficient and dependable. Other than slappin on a 2x1 intake for looks they are not mopars answer for the speed crowd. From 33 on those L6's and the cars they were in were marketed as family or thrifty cars. The speed crowd was targeted with the Hemi. You can get good cruising speeds out of em but look at the weight yer pushing. Great torque engines. Are you lookin at a deluxe 237 or 217? Iether way they aint tire burners, but that dont mean its no good.

Desoretoes had the same 6 cly. as the chrysler. Parts from a ply. or dodge will not fit. I do have a split manifold.

There are dual and even triple intakes, Various split exhausts (usually home-made) and finned aluminum heads and side covers, as well as at least a couple of guys who grind cranks for them. thanks for the info.it one of those old lady never drove it been in a garage in iowa forever deals[which means it will leak like crazy].whats the story on the fluid drive transmission.
