not everyone checks in on the stickys regularly and in the recent past mod's are regulating more frequently.
if transactions should be conducted in PM's doesnt it make sense to just disallow replies to posts again?
specifically commenting on Rash's post here:

im not criticising or pissed at any single incident... just curious to see what the advantages are by leaving threads open to replies

There are plenty of good reasons to allow replies to the ads. Someone may have a question that the seller didn't think of but it's good info for anyone interested to have, the seller may want to reply to their own ad to add info or change price, Someone may just want to say they'll take it and get it over with. We have no problems with these type replies and a small amount of conversation on an ad is a good thing.
The problem we face is the MULTITUDE of posts people make which are completely useless and benifit no one. Hell, some of them don't even benifit the seller. The "I wish I were closer" posts baffle me.
Look at it this way. Some guy wants to sell something real bad. He spends the time to read the rules, figures out how to post pics, puts every bit of info in his ad that could possibly help and then waits.
Meanwhile, someone else posts "For Sale" (like the title to the forum didn't already cover that) no location, no price, vague description if any at all and no word on pics. Now there are a flood of people asking, "where is it located"? "Got pics"? "how much"? How many people does it take to ask the same question with no response before the rest figure out the dude isn't checking back? There have actually been ads that say, "E-mail or call me (address and number included) because I'm not checking back", and people still ask questions and then start bitching in the thread when they aren't answered. Killing more ads...
And the newest fad "PM sent". That tidbit of info only benifits the buyer and seller and they both know a PM was sent. It's an annoyance to everyone else.
Meanwhile, the guy who did it right, invested time in his ad, took YOUR time into consideration is getting screwed cuz his well done ad just got moved to page three in less than 24 hours.
It's all just common sense but as the saying goes, common sense isn't too common anymore.
We're just as sick of enforcing rules as everyone else is of having to know what they are. Unfortunately, there's no way around them. I know it seems there's a big blow-up about every 6 months and I think it's because we have a problem, work it out, everyone on board knows about it and it chills. Then a few thousand more people join up, they have no idea of what has happened in the past and start doing the same stuff we keep trying to get rid of.
In the end we just want the classifieds to work for everyone who is selling or buying something that this board focuses on. It shouldn't be this hard.

::hangs head and waves the guilty hand::
I just posted a wish I was closer add... damnit. Kill it, stuff it, do whatever you wish with it.
However, it was on a Freebie 9" disc rear axle, so hopefully it'll save it from needing a BTT.
Don't scold me too badly. ::sniffles::

Some good replies to this ad, sure they could also have been handled by PM but they are at least educational. Take a read through the ad and decide for yourselves which replies are worth your time and which aren't.

i agree, the "got pics?", "wish i were closer", "i got XXXX to trade", "send pics to my email" is retarded and annoying.
saying PM SENT seems to help secure a spot in line for an item long enough to type a quick message to the buyer and also gives an indication as to how many people are ahead of you... at least, that is the way i look at it. IMO, it is a little better than the "send pics to dumbass@AOL.com".
another opinion of mine... if there is one post with good info, it then negates 5 posts with idol chatter. there probably is no fix to the problem, just compramises.
thanks for the answers Rash..
Yeah... we compromise as best we can... It's a tough road for sure as I am sure Rashy will attest to.
The "pm sent" thing doesn't really count for anything as nothing is sold till it is paid for. We can't and don't police that...

I'm going to get me one of those SAWEET red vests I used to have when I worked at Target (many moons ago) that said, "I'm here to help" on the back.
I know we come off as hard asses sometimes but we want everyone to know that our main objective is keeping the classifieds on focus and working for everyone. We WILL do what we figure it takes to do just that. As Ryan has said, the HAMB isn't about Classifieds. In fact, I don't believe there was a classified section when I started here.
We'd hate to see them become such a burden or so ineffective that it would make better sense to get rid of them.
As Ryan mentioned on the place in line thing, the only way I'll ever back someone and consider a deal a "done deal" is when cash is in hand. There are a few people who post "PM sent" religiously and RARELY seal the deal. Not only does it effect the other ads as previously discussed, it may just turn away a REAL potential buyer because they think they are too late.

The dumbass part of saying "pm sent" is ,,, if you haven't closed the deal, it brings it back to the top for others to get a shot at buying it. If you saw a 6-2v Hemi crossram with carbs on it for $200 at a swap meet, would you pull out the money and make the deal asap OR would you start yelling "damn thats a smoking deal, hey guys come look at this intake I'm thinking of buying, woooohooooo". If you chose the second choice, I'm already 1/2 back to the car with "your" intake. Unless I see "sale pending" or "sold" on the ad by the seller, I'll sniper your ass in a heartbeat. Call it chickenshit or whatever,,, but shit or get off the pot.

Hey Man - Welcome.
Kinda of a tradition for guys to bust balls to guys who don't read the rules and post new stuff for sale.
With that in mind - you can sell parts for vehicles before 1964 per the outline in the rules.
As far as being disabled, I'm sure the guys didn't know it and didn't get personal but still you have to follow the rules like every everyone else.
After all, we are all into Hot Rods and Customs and guys being guys.
We are here to have fun - shoot the bull - sell some cars / parts
(64 and older) and bench race too.
