Whenever I get around to bagging my plymouth (GM G-body suspension) I want to use every cheap trick to get it low . I've seen an article somewhere about stepping the lower arms. Seems straight forward, but I'd love to see pics if anyone's done it. Also, I know alot of hydro guys extend the upper a arm to help correct camber. What about taking a bit out of the lower when you step them? Thanks

I use 73 to 87 GM half ton truck balljoints in the G bodies. You hafta reem the spindle a lil bit.The balljoint fits right in the lower a arm.Lowers the car an extra inch and a half.I'll see if I have some pics of the stepped arms I do.....Shiny

If you are talking about lowering the spring pocket, here is a pic of what El Polacko did on mine. He used, what I think is 6 lengths of 3/8" bar stock, and stacked 1 on each side of the A arm triangle. He drilled out the rivets, drilled holes through the bars, and used bolts to hold it back together.

Deyo- I actually mean cutting off the part where the balljoint goes and raising it up, I thing you can also angle it so there's a better angle when lowered.

29--do you have pics of your stepped arms?
I've seen it done, you basicly slice the arm behind the ball, and slip a piece of plate in the cut, welding the outer piece to the plate higher then the inner section and add gussets both sides.
I have heard it's not the best way but does seem to get the job done.
I'm thinking if you didn't get to radicle it would be ok.
if you go too low the lower spring pocket will hang down where it could be below the scrub line and the upper arm would be up beyond it's acceptable geometric range..
prolly the best reason for even considering it is it could be done for almost nuthin, just some scrap and a welder, maybe drop it an inch like that and cut one wrap out of your coils to get it in the weeds, and still have some suspension travel.
