some times in doing my own work with too many options in my head i start to get lost and not like any of the work i have done . I need some thoughts on what i have done so far
it's a 1931 model a pickup chopped 4.5" sectioned 2" channeled 3" cab streched 4" suicide flush fit doors 1957 ford dash . im not sure if i want to keep the fire wall i made. i am not that fond of it but i refuse to use a flat one with a dimple for the magneto. or one of those store bought gerneric recesed ones that has no chance of fitting with out cutting it up to ribbons help me out with your thoughts

My two cents... I like the firewall and I think you will too once it is smoothed up and painted, or at least primed so it blends with the rest of the car. Oh, and YOU BUILT IT!

Not bad at all, I kinda like the coffin shape in the firewall. The cab stretch and lights look good too.
Is the smoke in the cab stretch picture coming from the exhaust or your bong?

I think the firewall is going to look fine. You might want to put the valve covers back on before you start welding/grinding/bondo-ing to keep crap out of there.
Also, I think you may want a different exhaust. Those kind of look t-bucketish.

the exhaust was a freebee from a friends t bucket i re did for him im thinking of cutting it up and using the big radius bend to make some style of low lakester headers that will follow the bottom of the body but again i cant decide
I'm kinda wondering about that British cable winch? on the front end.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

not sure what to do with it. thats why there is no mention of it. but i have to say i am thinking about it for the fact that i can run the bed lower on the frame and have the full size bed with plenty of travel. i would hate to build a pickup with a bed that can not be used for more then a moon tank holder and a place to put the battery and a six pack. i need room for a keg (full of beer) and the junk i buy at the swap meet

I like it so far. A lot of hard work in it. I too think the firewall will look good once it's finished off. But when it's your own work it can be kinda hard to get a good perspective.
You may be right. The headlights might be a bit big. But I would wait on that decision until you have more of the structure finished off and can see the proportions better.

Local 4X4 club help you build that front suspension?
Just kidding, looks like you used a Jag rear in the front! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
From the pics it's hard to see what you have going on up there. The firewall is fine. Any issues with the valve covers whn the engine rocks? It looks close on the corners. I'd make a set of headers for it and run the pipes closer to the body. Sell the ones you have to someone building a T bucket. Put plugs on the light wires so you can swap them out with a different style when your mood changes. How does the car fit you? Could you do some miles in it or will you have a crooked neck after 10 minutes. That's priority #1. You won't drive it if it isn't comfortable no matter how cool it looks.

the front end is a 4" beam with split bones and f-100 box the big pile in front of the car is a jag rear that im not sure about

Its looking good. How bout streatching the headlights like you streached the cab.
Just my 2 cents.

That's going to be cool when you get it on the road. I think I know why you don't like the firewall. The left side does not match the right side. If the pass was the same as the driver's side, it would look better I think. As for your headlights, they need to be mounted so they hang straight. Right now it looks like you are using the mounts as they came off the donor car and they are angling the lights outword, which does not look right at all. I think the size will be ok, and they will look better visually with the deuce grill... they just have to be straight. I really like the bottom frame/cab and the extended doors. I have to agree on the seats... high backs gotta go.
EDIT:, I looked at the firewall again, and maybe it's just the pic that makes it look uneven. What exactly don't you like about it?

I had the same questions as everyone else -- what the heck is all the metal up front, but you answered the question. You need to roll that puppy out into the clear to get some real photos so we can actually see it (without Jag rearends blocking the view)!
Just pick a theme and stick to it and you'll be fine.

as a few of you may know,I know this guy pretty well.As much as Im always harping on period correct hardware blah, blah blah ,The thing about this guy is that he aint in it for the costume party or the little kulture scene. All he gives a shit about is CUTTING,WELDING,CUTTING SOME MORE AND ARROW STRAIGHT BODYWORK.Then he proceeds to beat the everloing shit out of em when they are done. This guy is form following function which is why he will probably never completely subscribe to any particular theme when building anything. I know that he plans on abusing this car so bad that he even installed power wiper to beat it in the rain

Off to a damn good start...doesn't look like a generic "rat rod" or anything stupid.
It's got enough owner built "cool" to stand out from the slap together junk getting so popular now.
Just keep at it and do what YOU dig...it'll be a sweet streeter when you're done!

here is a better pic
If I had to change anything it would be the headers and a set of wheels & tires. Some lake's headers or cast block huggers (like the Sandersons) and a set of 16-inch steelies with skinny blackwall bias plys and you'd be in business.

Dont like the firewall? rolling some beads in it like Henry did may give it character
I like the headlights... I think they can work if the truck is gonna be low and long, it'll flow together. Imagine them dropped 3 inches, and moved forward about 2... I think that would hide them enough so they don't stick out, but they'd still contribute to the look...

NAW...it looks great!
Grab 12 cans of spray primer, shoot it, get some better looking wheels/tires on it....roll it out side, and you'll have a new view of your ideas and dreams...trust me.

The firewall....hate to be the only dissenting vote, but I think it is too angular for the car. I really hate the look of a part that just looks like it was bent up on a brake. For it to look more "natural" it needs to be softer, more rounded corners than sharp edged. I know it's a lot of work, but from what I hear, you like to cut and weld! I would get a T dolly, or solid round bar, 3/4 or 1" diameter, cut the bends, and hammer them over the bar to round them off, and reweld. A few beads rolled in it would also make it look more natural. Esp. if they were wider than the normal 1/4" ones.
Just an opinion from someone who likes to do more work than necessary, though! Anthony can tell you.....
In the firewall recess you need some cathederal type pin striping to go with the shape a kinda theme once it's done when i say church or cathederal if you look at some of the stuff from the middle ages in Britain it was kinda skulls and skeletons and very very gothic...........Marq

as i went to sleep last nite thinking deeply about the look of the fire wall it came to me to cover the out side with either engine turned gold leaf with some stripe work or aluminum. not noticeable in the pics are the fine bends in the reacesed portion of the fire wall that follow the other angles. also i think alot of it is not going to be seen when the engine is fully dressed (valve covers and spacers magneto, plug wires, heater hoses , carb linkage)
any one got ideas on what kind of air cleaners to run ?????
i have old cal custom finned valve covers or an old set of corvette ones that im going to use when i decide
