This may be old news to some of you that are "in the know" but I just heard about it. It seems that Vic Edelbrock Jr. now has possession of his dad's original roadster. Vic Jr has built a couple of clones of the car and actually knew where the original was but for some reason couldn't buy it. When the roadster's owner died, his wife found a note in his wallet saying that the roadster should be sold to Vic Jr. And that's what happened in spite of some family members objections. Roy Brizio is restoring it to slat flat configuration and I'm told it will have a 200+ horsepower flathead and will be race ready. It's nice to see another car that help create this sport back on the scene.
The car is scheduled to be at SEMA for anyone interested in seeing it.

That is great news, thanks for sharing.

Speaking of SEMA, do you know the dates in Nov of it by any chance?

I'm told Vic is flying his mom out to Las Vegas and they are going to drive the roadster into the SEMA show with the TV cameras going etc.

Ugh. Why would they object to selling it to Vic Jr., especially when their own deceased father wanted him to have it?

because they would have gotten a lot more for it at auction.

Yea,
It was all about $$$$$$$. Look at Ricky Nelson's roadster maybe going for $150,000 to $160,000.

It ain't Ricky Nelson's roadster just because he wanted to buy it. His only claim to the roadster is that he probably farted on the seat during a photo op! Drooling doesn't count for ownership. If it did, I'd own Barbie Benton! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Joe, I've farted on alot of seats in my lifetime... does that mean I can "claim" the cars???? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A far as the family memebers go, they MIGHT have objected to the sale cuz maybe they like it and wanted the opportunity to keep it and enjoy it themselves. Nothing wrong with that. Mom had the last word so she sold it to Vic and hopefully he did pay market valve. That would only be fair. If the deceased owner's intention was to "give" it to the Edelbrock family, it should have been done before his death or legal like, in his will.

The last owner of the car has owned it since Vic Sr. sold it. He changed some things on it and It won the Oakland Roadster show. It was then kept in that configuration from then on. Vic Jr. tried to but it but to no avail so cloned one to the configuration of his dad's when he wanted one for his "FLEET". The whole story was in Hot Rod or Street Rodder magazine when the clone was built.

Actually, Vic Jr. has 2 clones of his dads roadster. The first one was a 'glass car with (I believe) a Brizo frame. Later on, Vic found a low mileage gennie car and converted that to be a "truer" replica of the original. They sit side by side in his collection in Torrance.

I belive the family tado was over money as the slip of paper also had a dollar amount that the owner a Vic Jr. agreed to several years ealier. Vic had come close buying the car... to the point where he and the owner settled on a price but the owner had a change of heart.

Yea money was the issue. Vic Jr offered to buy it for $85K but the guy's family wanted $135K. The note in the guy's wallet said to sell it to Vic Jr for the $85K he offered for it.

I saw the car up at Brizio's yesterday and it's awesome -- probably a lot nicer than when Vic owned it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What are the hubcaps/wheels that show in the pictures? I think the Karl Orr car ran the same ones.

Those are an accessory covers that were used over '35 wires with stock caps and rings. They seem to be extremely rare today. I've only seen two or three sets in person.

Here's another pic of this style cover:
