Hey guys, a friend of mine is fixin up a '59 Rambler with a 195.6 ci inline 6, and he was wondering if there was any places other than Clifford Performance to get parts (ie cam, intake, headers, pistons....) for this thing. I didnt know anything else to tell him, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Unfortunately he will find little in the way of aftermarket parts for the 196 engine. This is a different block than the 199/232/258 that jeep just retired from production. 196 died in 63 in believe(production stopped, I think some Americans in 64 still had some leftovers put in them). Ebay often has pistons/rings for it listed. Never seen any go-fast or pretty intakes or exhaust for this motor.

There's a 60 rambler in Canora that my brother-in-law found for around $200, Spedley. Apparently has a rebuilt engine in it. He knows about another up there too, but it's a early 50's style. Might be able to get you some pics if you're interested.

Try this guy. I have got stuff from him before, but it was a few years back. Not even sure if he is still in business. He sells Rambler stuff specifically.

Thanks for your help guys, I'll let him know Mr 57. Road Apple, I'll be sure to have him try to get a hold of the guy. Oh ya, I never said they were pretty cars, in fact, I think they're downright oooooogly. Hahahahaha

No need for speed parts for these speed demons. They're blindingly fast from the factory... Just look at this display of raw power!

I bet if you timed it just right, you could change the rotation of the earth when you mash the throttle in one of those!!!!!!

Best bet, do an engine swap.

A 292" Chevy inline six strikes me as a good deal.
It'll still sound "Rambler-like" and with a little work would be a kickass car.
Mild cam, low comp pistons, killer ignition, blower.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Best with a T-350 behind it and I believe that's the way they come from the factory.
Find the right not-running half ton Chevy pickup for a righteous price and it would be a terrific donor vehicle.

I suppose the three pedal guys could stick a T-10 behind the big six, but the auto is faster.

Better off the line for one thing.
Not talking about the "bury the throttle and sidestep the clutch bit" here, rather a skilled and under control leave without spinning the tires too much. You'd be surprised what you can do with the right street tires and a locking diff. (Modern 15" wide racing slicks don't do worth a darn on the street. Even when it's dry.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

Faster shifting for the other.
If most of us could speed-shift half as fast as we think we can we'd probably stand a good chance against a well built automatic.

Anyhow, here's an engine pic of a local Rambler with Turbo-Charged Ford 200 inch six under the hood.
