Excellent shots...!

Did Ed ever fold back the wings of the Fairey Firefly?

That's a load of mechanicals...!!!

And Django "hang Around" a bit and maybe before Oshkosh Ed is bringing his Firefly (With a RR Griffon) to Waukesha to visit his Dad! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Great pictures! Probably no more beautifully designed planes than the P-51 Mustang and F-86 Sabre Jet. Thanks for sharing, they're the ultimate "vintage" iron.

Great pics, Thanks!

And "For those that cry about off topic stuff...."
Just try and tell me that Wee Willy II isn't a hot rod: 1650 cu. in., overhead cams and two-stage, two-speed blower. You can't get much hotter than that!

Very cool, Buick...thanks for sharing.

I really dig WWII era airplanes. When I lived in Urbana, IL, there was a guy named Rudy Frasca that owned a company there that built flight simulators. Rudy had his own small airport on the north side of town, and he had a collection of of vintage fighters that he used to entertain clients, amongst other things. Usually on Saturday afternoons in good weather you could see a couple of them up mock dogfighting! As I recall, he had a P-40, a Corsair, a T-6 that had been mocked-up to look like a Zero and was used in the filming of "Tora! Tora! Tora!", and an honest-to-goodness Spitfire.

Cool story regarding the Spitfire...Every year around Memorial Day, there is a big British car show in Urbana. It used to be held at Rudy's airport. The first year I went, he more or less "unveiled" his Spit by sitting it on the tarmac right in the middle of all these classic British cars. Seemed utterly appropriate, and it stole the show in my opinion!

I do have a few more pics......but I don't have the right kind of Zoom lens to get tight shots of them in the air.

That P-38 in question......at least was told to me....is still being resored. Its mighty close. You knw what was vey cool besides the planes? The old vets!!!!!!!!! Man I saw one guy with old tats.......ridding an electric scooter with B-ville 200mpg club stickers on it and La roadsters stickers. I wanted to talk tot he seasoned old vet.........but felt stupid and didn't know what to say. Man these guys to me are gods!!!! Thes guys lived and died flying some of the most amazing war birds of our times.

About the engines...........their is nothing like the sound of Merlin/Rolls engine screaming past you in a Mustang! I was a bit disapointed that I saw no German war Birds. My favorite Axis plane has to be the Fock Wolf F-190. Man that thing was a killer. But better than that has to be the p47 thunderbolt! A true predator among predators.

You know that last time I was at that air show I musta been 12 years old........I met Pappy Boyington and the Japaneese pilot who shot him down.

Wee Willie is more hot rod than most of you think. Parts of it came from the wreck of the #5 Red Baron RB-51 speed record holder (499mph) and air racer. I bought a motorcycle from Ed Browning, and I work just up the street from Pacific Fighters and the old Red Baron Air Service building.

Couldn't help but notice the art on the F-86. Does Doug Driscoll from Twin Falls, Idaho own it? Here's a web shot of him and his mustang "Section Eight"

They had A few shows here at Moffett Field back in the day,my dad used to take me,I have pics somewhere...But since the Clinton Administarion closed all the bases up here in the Bay Area I havent seen a show in a long time now.Thank again for those great Pics... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Me too. Same age... hot rods and WWII aviation (actually the whole period in general)

I putting together a PTO USAAF Officers uniform and wearing it to a swing dance on Friday. Back when swing was huge, and I was going alot (4 or 5 times/week, going to Catalina, blah blah blah) there was a group of guys that had uniforms. I always wanted one, but couldn't find one that fit or that I could afford to eat if it didn't fit (ebay). Now days, the people who still going dancing just show up in whatever, which is cool (no more poser factor I guess). Usually about once a year there is dance where people will dress up. This dance is specifically for dressing vintage. My g/f has been wanting me to go dancing again lately (I only go once every other month it seems, apart from rockabilly stuff) and this will be perfect. I'm such a geek. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'm looking forward to wearing the uniform to an airshow and getting that much closer to the planes than the general public is allowed. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Are you guys talking about Glacier Girl?

I was at Oshkosh EAA when they first preveiwed that crushed hulk...! And I have the photo's of the plane and the men that brought it up from the Ice!

I've gone to 24 Oshkosh fly-ins and it still amazes me on the Number of beautiful birds that attend! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hey, that's cool! What weekend in Sept usually? I hope not the 20th or so, cause I always go to the Fall Hoosier Swap Meet with my Dad. I've only missed 2 or 3 in 33 years. But I would definitely be into driving up for that otherwise.

One of these days Mark, you and I are going to finally meet and have ALOT to talk about. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Maybe for the dance I can bring along some of my Blacktop Baron buddy's. Some of them are pretty hard core reenactors, besides the hot rod thing.
