I won it. I'll sell it to you for $150.

Seriously, all's fair, blah, blah, blah......I've thought of having the same gripe, but what if you were the one to win and another HAMBer came on here complaining??

We've been over this before (well, when the auction is still active) and best I can suggest is keep quiet about eBay auctions!

Cool book though. Pity.

who drug out this old assed post???

bid to win, bid your max. if you lose you just didn't want it bad enough.

I won an original 1949 chevy sedan delivery brochure a while back. pretty hard item to find. I put in a bid of $75.00 a few seconds before the auction ended. got it for 30-something bucks.

had a guy email me after telling me a big story about how much he wanted it, and he'd had a 49 sedan delivery for x number of years blah, blah, blah, I emailed him back and told him I bid $75.00 to get it, and I'd sell it to him for the same.

never heard from him again. guess he did not want it as bad as he thought...

eBay is a strange beast. Some think it's the fair market value, while others think it's a swapmeet to get bargains, others think it's the place to get the widest audience and highest price & some think it's a scourge that has driven prices up...

...they're all right.

To the right person, some things may be worth much more than what they should be due to location, knowledge of the market, knowledge of availability, laziness, timing, etc...

Using old car parts as the primary example - the guys that have ready access to killer swap meets, amazing junkyards, and multi-layer networks of car-guy friends - eBay is a scourge that has driven prices up. On the other hand, the guy that lives in east bumfuck nowhere, has never seen a real swap meet, visits junkyards filled with late-model plastic stuff, and only knows three other guys into cars, eBay is a godsend - a place to find things he didn't even know existed.

From the timing perspective, not everyone checks eBay all the time, so getting a part in front of the buyer who needs/wants it and can't get it locally might be challenging & require a hefty reserve (some might say unfair) and lots of patience (=relisting).

You could write a book on the pscyhology of eBay....

if you can't run with the big dawgs stay on the porch!
or
winners never Quit and quitters never win!

wake up its a fucking auction. do you think cars are worth what BARRETT-JACKSON is getting? you need to find two bidders that want one thing and price is no object.
if you're going to cry, why do it here? go back up on the porch and lick your dick with the other LOSERS

Most of the literature I buy is for my Dodge Brothers. What I have done with hard to find manuals and literature is make copies or ask the high bidder for a copy. I'm looking for the info, not neccasarily the original piece of paper. Kinkos needs the business too. Most of us DBers know each other and help each other just like HAMBers do. It could be unwritten rule No. 69 of the HAMB manual to offer copies.

I have to agree. Bid the maximum you think the item is worth, and let the proxy bidding take care of it from there.

And my eBay name is the same as my HAMB name.

I prefer sniper software. Keeps the emotion out of it & keeps idiots from getting their emotions in it...

You know what's funny - I never, ever, ever understood women who would buy something they don't really need right now just because it was on sale....
