I remember talking to a guy once at a car show and asking him what he did. He said he worked on a big lathe. So I asked him how big and he said the bed was 130 feet long. He worked somewhere in the Pittsburgh area and they made cranks for ship engines. He said a job could be on the lathe for up to a year!!!

They are hardly an upscaled car engine.Cool thing about them is they are inline. Above the engine is a trolly system with a large pnuematic hoist.For what you say ? In the upper aft level of the engine room they keep anywhere from 2 to 4 spare cyclinder heads and pistons.all the headbolts stay with the head along with 2 large pnuematic torque wrenches.While at sea and the engine running they can change the piston and head while still moving.Ive seen the setup and the Chief Engineer was tellin Me about it.Pretty cool feature huh!--FEDER

Wow that thing is a monster! 108,000+ HP! 102rpm seems pretty fast for something that big.Did you see the starter motor? It's like a 200 Hp motor just to turn that thing over. I have a piston from a waukeshau V16 motor that weighs 34 pounds and I thought that thing was big. It's probably smaller than the valve guides in that thing. Thanks for posting that, it's good to see that mans quest for more horsepower has gone to a new level. Do you think I can squeeze it in my cad? Hell, I could probably park my car in one of the cylinders.

If you could get that thing to Bonneville, you could run it in the U/UDT unlimited Diesel truck class. Man, the extra weight would be GREAT for traction. It may be a little hard to stop, though...
