Vega box seals

Anyone knows where to get shaft seals for a Vega steering box? I have the numbers but everywhere I look they are obsolete and no longer available.

Anyone knows a place that actually have them??

GM no longer carries them.

Mullins won't sell them.

But, if you have a Bearing Supply House in your area you should be able to take the old seal and disassembled steering box in.
They can measure and get a seal out of stock for you or order one in.
I know you're living in a metric country, but bearings and seals aren't metric per se.
Many years ago I was able to buy all the roller bearings - American made - I needed for the engine in my Italian made 350 Ducati dirt bike.

The seal you end up with may have a smaller mounting surface along the outside edge than did the original, but it will still work fine.

Do not run oil in the Vega box.
Not even the heavy duty stuff - IE: 90 & 140 wt.

GM recommends grease, but to my knowledge do not carry it in stock.

Sta-Lubes extreme pressure grease with Molybdenum-Disulphide works well in the Vega box on my car.
Any local equivalent with Moly should do the job.

Just steal an iced tea spoon from the kitchen and spoon it full.

You might try "MULLINS" I believe the seal is the same on the box that they produce. It sure wouldn't hurt to ask them.

I have asked Mullins, they wouldn't sell me anything but a complete box, but they were kind enough to give me the GM P/N so I could check if they were available on this side of the pond, which they weren't.

The combination of diameters needed does not show up in any generic seal catalogue and the CR number fits nicely in that size area in the CR catalogue but that number is just not there.

There is a place that can actually machine a one-off to any combination of sizes, but if I can get one off the shelf...

I looked and couldn't find the number on the seal I used.

What are the GM and CR numbers?

Mullins told me, and I quote. "I'm not in the business of selling parts or giving out information. I sell rebuilt boxes. It would be self defeating for me to sell you the seals or give you the part numbers now wouldn't it!"

I took the box to a local bearing supply place and they fixed me up.

I wouldn't buy anything from Mullins if he was selling deuce coupes for a dollar! Your mileage may vary...

I found some locally.

Ordered a couple of each.

$4.21 for #CR9818
$4.35 for #CR6130

They come out of the Los Angeles warehouse - to Central California.
Should be here tomorrow.

I'm using one set on my Vega box, if you want the other set let me know.
