Bikes are fun!
Finised (almost) the Sportster chopper and I'm tearing around on two wheels again for the first time in a year.
Time to start another car project!

Still have to clean up the wiring and finish the pipes.

And I might do something paint-wise on the tank...Any Ideas?

Looks great! I'd leave the tank as-is until you get some miles on the bike. No sense forcing something that doesn't need immediate attention.

That's a hot lookin' scooter man! Good job.
I agree though. It is a perfect chopper and I would leave the tank. It will set you even further apart from the current crop of yuppie scum that are ridin' around with 200 lbs of Orange County accessories on their 'choppers'. LOL

wow! great looking bike... take your time deciding what (if anything) to do with the tank. some times it is best to remember that simple can be beautiful. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

hey how come neither one of my evo sportys looked that nice?I'd wait it out on the tank as well, looks to good to touch right away.I'm interested in the specs on the frame and who made it.Haven't noticed many for the evo sporty unless you want to spend the big bucks and go fat tire, which "just my opinion" looks funny. Also curious about that rear tire pretty unique looking pattern any info you want to share on that?

The frame is homemade, used the original frame tubes under the motor and the original neck with the serial number, the rest is fab'ed. And the tire is a Pirelli dual sport tire 245/80/18, on a 18" rim laced to a stock hub.

Bad ass looking bike. Wounder why more people don't use sportster drive train. I would take that bike in a heart beat. How about so more stats on the bike.

I like the use of the late model caliper and "floating" disc in the back. Awesome looking bike there. I love it.

Wow... Leave the tank alone, its perfect...
It looks great.. most sporty chops I've seen have retained the front section of the frame... the part that keeps the tamk way high up in the air... they look LAME, if not just plain awkward... that looks RIGHT tho, good job!

The reflections of the Horizon in the shiny tank should be enough graphics for that bike.
It's done, Ride it!
Are you going to Polish the pipes to Finnish them? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Are they stainless or do they get chromed?
I had a sporty about 8 years ago that i wish i never sold..
I've been thinking about building another one, but a hard tail 'bobber' this time.
Yours is damn close to what i wanted to build!
Damn nice job man, damn nice!

Pipes are going to be painted flat black and wraped about half way with black header wrap. Although I like the blueing so much its going to be hard.
The bike used to be my easy on gas daily commuter vehicle, but I moved and stoped using it so I cut it up 'cuz I had nothing else to screw up at the time.
Its mostly stock late model ('01) Harley parts modified, only aftermarket stuff is the back rim, oil tank, and headlight. And I put a chain drive on it. Stock tank narrowed 2" in back and 2" at the bottom and re tunneled. Back fender is a spare tire cover.
I don't like the looks of the stock hand controls, I should have made the bars with 7/8" material an used maybe dirt bike controls (something smaller). It was built with what I had. I'm going to do something different for an air cleaner as well.

That tank and bike is great! If you go with flat black pipes maybe run a black primer scallop or flame job on the tank for effect?
What size is the rear frame tubing?
Nimrod

Used 1" tube for the back, backbone and downtube are 1 5/8".
For paint on the tank I was thinking of a silver panel on the sides following the shape of the tank...like a lot of stock sportster tanks.

Frozen in time! Hasn't changed since the picture, and I don't really have any interest in finishing it...maybe I'll get motivated again one day. For now its garage art.
Plus someone went and uped most of the records, and I don't know if I could top 'em.
