Well - it seems like a slow week. Good time to add something.
I have had nothing but headaches with my large format scanner lately, making it difficult to show off any of my larger sketches.
Still having trouble - all I can scan is monochrome. No greyscale - no color.
So here's some rudimentary linework on a piece that I am working on right now.
It will have another car added later (just to the left) hence the gapping void...Dimensions = 12hx30w
Media (so far) graphite on paper.
I plan to make copies and experiment with watercolors...shooting for that Janne type stuff!!

No watercolors is used on Model-A Coupe. Just Markers and colored pencils on marker paper (little bit Copic guache). Pastel powder spread with alcohol. Dries fast and paper stays straight.

Here is something a little different. This is as part of a t-shirt design I'm doing for a customer. Stockcar racing in New Zealand began in the '50s, and the cars were similar to what could be found in the US oval racing in the early days, pre-war Ford and Chevy coupes, plus we had a few sedans, and plenty of English stuff too. Ford Flathead V8s were a popular engine choice, and an engine size limit of 240ci was introduced. The races were run on 1/4 mile dirt ovals. The early cars used their original chassis', but there was plnty of crashing which was popular with the crowds, and soon teams were building what were basically armoured cars with a cut down road car body on top.
By the '70s, the pre-war bodies had gone and teams were fitting cut down English Ford Anglia, Hilman Imp, Morris 1100 etc bodies instead. These days the engine rule is up to 248ci, to allow for late model Fords and Chevy V8s, plus quad-cam Toyota and Nissan V8s. The top cars put out around 500hp. The cars are now pretty fast, and can lap most 1/4 mile tracks only about 2-3sec slower than a Sprintcar, yet they still have full-contact racing. Most of the cars now run fibreglass Ford Y bodies.

I met my wife Hadley at the Road Rockets show a few years ago while she was shooting pics of the show. She's been documenting the car culture scene for many years, and has created a body of work that I think is different from many of the things I see out there. She shoots medium format FILM (Hasselblad) and does all her own developing and printing. The work that I uploaded is framed in pairs, each image is about 10" square. This is just a sample of the work she does. I am really proud of her, so I thought you all might like to see these images. She does show and sell her work in galleries, I hoped she might find a different audience here in the HAMB.

I'd just like to say that I'm proud to have met Ray through here. Funny, I just went by his house last night on the way home and beeped and waved. Didn't see him out, but know where he's at. Looks like I'll keep that phone number and make an effort to stop by in PERSON rather than via net. Kind of an old fashioned way about it. Is that what traditional rodding is all about?
I'll miss the posts but I won't forget the afternoon he spent with my boys and I showing us how to start striping. It is an honor.

Don't have anything new to post this week so I'll put up one I did for my youngest son on the back of his truck.
I'd like to also say that this will probably be my last post on the board. For whatever reasons,I've decided to stop using my computer and devote a bit more time to my family.Am also cutting back on my show schedule as well.
I've had a good time on here and met a lot of good people, but it's time to move on.So I guess I'll see you later.

Understood Ray, hope ya drop in every now and then.
Here's one I am working on that was sort of scratched. We are not using this version of car nd some of the other elements you see here. This was just a trial and error progress pic. I need to put a fire under my a$$ and finish.

Well, we were thinking of starting a school for educating young hotrodders. Since building hotrods is function and art together Mitch decided to teach his youngest daughter how to operate the family pedal car and manuevuer in and out of traffic. Unfortunately, she was feeling a little under the weather, but you could see the excitement in her eyes from spending quality time with Dad. I also added Mitch's art contribution for the week. Thanks, Joe

I'm really not the one to ask I guess cuz I don't wear skulls BUT I will add that I'm not really a fan of a skull with crossed flags. Just don't seem like they go together. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

Here's another one just 'cause I can. A WORK IN PROGRESS, I like the way it printed out, all messy and what not. (also, it gives the show a much needed bump.)
What I'd do if I had it...

Naw, just pencil on tracing paper. (Why, I don't know, maybe for a parchment/rice paper look.) This is the best I could clean up and save an old bit of art work.
By way of clarification, When I said 'a much needed bump" earlier, I ment bumping the thread back towards the top. The art work this week is great. So many offer so much that I can't wait to see what's coming each and every week. I'm like a kid in a candy store around you guys. You could say I'm 'revved-up!'

this is the only thing I have to show for this week. He's about 7" tall on a spun aluminum gas tank. Comments and criticisms are appreciated.

A wagon I did for a friend of mine this week. He dug it out of someone's trash, and gave it the "OVERHAULIN" treatment. I did the stripes, and gold leaf.

This is a tool box top lid, door, whatever you want to call it. It's painted with 1 SHOT. The wings are variegated gold leaf. I did the end stripes, in the same style as on VonDutch's sign kit, as per owner's request.

I finished some more toolboxes, which compared to the stuff here seem a little lame. But here goes anyhow.
