What can I do to this? LoL! as far as who sells parts? What can I do to adapt a manual tranny to it or something? I just wanna see what potential there is for this thing.

You can leave it there. No speed equip for it. Stock parts very rare and also expensive. Takes the same trans adapters as the Chryslers. 300 or so for auto and 800 for stick. When all done, a very nice engine. You would be better off with a Chrysler or maybe the Dodge. My .00002

CAll Bob Walker at Hot Heads/Power Play. He has everything there is for it. He's a helluva nice guy, too.

Keep trying that number if it's busy--guys call him for tech help, and he stays on the phones with them all day, rather than just ditch them and take orders.

Hot Heads can rebuild any part of it, and they have some speed parts too (no intakes though).

Yeah, I wouldnt exactly say "anything for it".
The 276 was the real-deal early hemi hotrod motor. Bored out to 291 plus a little more to squeek under the 300ci class limit, it was THE engine. Plus, Desoto sounds cooler than Chrysler or Dodge. I had a 276 in my deuce, a running stocker. Spent $300 for a 4x2 intake and another $300 for headers, ran about as strong as a tired 283. It had an Offy adaptor to early Ford on it, you see those around for like $200. Looked into scrounging parts for a new rebuild, gave up when it topped over $4K. NOTHING is interchangeable between the early hemis, nor early-to-late.
BUT...nothing is cooler than a Desoto. Oh, I sold mine off with the intake/headers/adaptor(no carbs) for $2800.

the DeSoto seems to be the forgotten hemi, but very cool in it's own way. They are closer kin to a Dodge than a Chrysler. Speed equipment is scarce and pricey but holds it's value and then some. I am building a Super RedRam and parts are not very available but if you keep at it they turn up. Hard to beat the looks or sounds of these old motors. Here is a manifold on the bay for ya,

Wow, I would love that manifold on ebay. At the last show I went to there was a guy selling that exact manifold never installed with 4 94's and all the lines to plumb it. Woulda LOVED to have it, but it was $1750 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
