Ok time to think a little ahead.. Found a 50 chevy almost complete.
I wanna use it as a daily driver (back and forth from school and work) Insurence, registration, inspection never came up.. But its time to think of future plans ...

Heres some info, 17 years old, 50 chevy 2 door coupe with a 305 and nova rear..Engine doesnt smoke, and its pretty damn quite. Located in Middlesex New jersey - 08831

Heres the question. I know I cant drive the car with QQ plates. To young..( 25 years old limit) I know its going to be a pain to get it inspected.. ( emissions etc..)

With this type of year and non -stock engine.. how do i get it inspected? Should i pay off a priviate garage? Or does the NJ DMV have a system for these cars??? If so, what are the rules and regs?

I guess these are quite the same questions.. Insurence and registering the car...
How do i register this car? It cant be QQ, so its gotta be normal insurence and normal plates ..
Now depending on if it pass's inspection what insurence do i go with???
Im not going to be traveling far.. Schools like 5 miles away, and worth is no more than 2 or 3.. I might be taking a hour trip here or there, but 98% of the time its local driving...
If i insure it under my name, with normal allstate its going to be 2700... ( already did the info) Thats with partial ownership/driving..

I could go on my pops name, and go under the account that says i might drive here and there once and while and save over 1000 but thats only if its going to cost me TOP dollar..

Is there insurence agency that has good rates for a young drive with this type of car??? What do you guys use???

Now after i think about it, i'll probably will go under my fathers name , to get a better rate.. But its still going to cost alot more with my name on the insurence card...

I know i cant use dealer plates .. Thats totaly out of the question. And i know the insurence has to be on my name partially ..
I just cant right it off on my fathers name fully, then happend to get into an accident.. POW people sueing me for every penny..

What do you guys recoment?? Please help me out..
Busted my ass to get this far,, dont wanna ruin it by Jersey's rules..

thanks
steve-

Whew!... Slow down. I think you just answered your own question. Put it under your dads name and get your self on the insurance. He'll probably get a multi-car discount to help off set the cost of adding you.
As far as emmisions, I don't know what NJ does, but just about everywhere a car of that age will be granfathered in and won't have to have emmsions.

Heres the problem. My family uses allstate. And for some reason, its extra expensive if the car is over 25 years or older and a person under 21 of age is driving ..

Theres gotta be a better insurence agency out there for what im looking for...
I mean, its possible to insure this thing and have no problems,, but your paying 3000!!

I donno, theres gotta be some loop hole..

Insurance in 'Jersey is expensive.
Get used to it.

A friend of mine there pays over $3000 insurance on his late model pickup.
And he's probably in his late 50's.

Check with Hagerty,or some of the other specialty insurers.
But it won't be cheap.

No cheap insurance in Jersey for people under 25. That's life. himmelberg, formerly of the garden state.
