The torque tube ones, what are they made of? Is it steel or cast iron. Not the tube itself, but the actual driveshaft? I only ask cause I'm reading thru that PDF file on building a dirt track racer, and it says to cut the shaft down to 15" total length, then build back up with weld and remachine to shaft diameter. I want to do this exact thing with my modified, and was wondering what I'll need to weld up the shaft. This is assuming that FatHack is gonna go with an open driveshaft rear, that is. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif So I can get mine back!

IF you had an engine in that car that was WORTHY of it, I'd let ya use the Olds rear in the gay-rage. But that's gonna have to be saved for a GAYER day...

I bet if I offered to pick up that Olds rear before May 29 or so, you'd give it up freely...

You got enough shit to move!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

nads,

it's a 216 powered slug. I am using it cause it's there, and my unemployed ass can't afford anything else. I got an open drive tranny from DIRTYT, but I don't wanna use it in case I decide to convert the Biscayne to a 3 speed. With gas prices like this, I think I might be ditching the Powerglide! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I hear ya man, but used '55 up 3 speeds are cheap. Use the late bellhousing and everything lines up and works perfect. It'll cost more to shorten a torque tube I bet.
