Can I ask a question. I see some people slant the door post forward on a chop and a few will keep it straight up and down. Which way is better and why. Sorry for the dumb question, but some time down the road I'd like to chop a top and need to ask you guys who know what your doing.

Just depends on what you like. If you slant them and wanna keep the back windows rolling down you gotta change all the inner mechanism to roll at a slant which I think is more work than its worth thus the reason most leave it stationary. If you leave the post straight you gotta move the top of the post back and fill in the space in front of it. It really just depends on what ya like and how much work you wanna do yourself or pay for.

It is deffinately more work to slant the posts, but in my opinion it looks allot better. It gives it another subtle touch that not many people recognize, but the ones that do know how much work you put into your car....
Kinda like rounding the hoods, or doors.

I gotta reply to the post slant issue.

Alot of people think the posts have to be slanted to be correct. It drives me nuts seeing them slanted. In my worthless opinion it goes against the flow of the car.
My poncho has 4 and change of the top, straight posts and rounded door corners...works for me. But some will still ask when am I going to slant those posts? grrrr.

Bottom line is to build it how you like it cause you will never please everyone and you shouldn't try to please anyone but yourself. That's why its YOUR ride.

..about the slanted posts..it IS just a matter of personal preference...i'd rather not slant mine myself when i chop it..i did see a very interesting article where they chopped a 53 and didnt slant the posts..they cut the whole post top (and about 3 inches surrounding) and just switched it with the 3 inches of metal behind it..worked out real nice

Did you lay that back sheet metal over the roof? Thats probably the quickest and easiest way, but when when you go to paint that car with a dark gloss color.. You will see lines in the roof..

Chooped 54, I've gotta disagree with you on the slant post job being harder to accomplish. With slanted posts the B pillar falls naturally a couple inches forward and all you have to do is pie cut the frame pieces and knock it back together. It's a lot harder to move the B pillar back.

As for which one looks better? I dunno, it just depends on the car I guess.

37kid its got 4inches out of the A piller, 133 I can't tell you how hard it is yet but I will when I am done.
