I'm making an insert for my grill shell. I happened upon three pieces of 5/16" diameter stainless rod and went about bending it to the shape I want. I've also come across enough 3/16" to fill it in. Now I was wondering if I can weld all of this crap together and expect it to STAY together by using a mig welder with standard wire and oxy/argon gas. Seems like getting stainless wire and another tank is a big expense just to make a grill insert.

BTW, I'm unsure as to the series of stainless I'm dealing with. Part of the bargain....

Thanks.

It would stay together,if welded properly, but the welds would likely rust.

i just welded the stainless tri to the body on my pontiacand it welded just fine, but nothings gonna rust since it's all covered up now. Probaly wanna put a little bit o silver paint on the weld or some clear to keep it from rustin' up on ya.

You don't have a stainless welding setup at work? If ya really wanna get it welded with stainless I can get the welding teacher at my school to do it for you, He's the best welder in the area.
