I was at an auction last year and they were selling a set of fender skirts with the normal dings and such and the auctioneer said that they cost $110 from Classic Chevy International (tri five chevy company), suddenly people were bidding left and right and they sold for almost $200! I dont get that one.

just a thought, but maybe the bidder has heard about Moon taking forever to ship and stuff is on back order. If he needs it quickly it would probably be worth the extra $12 to get one in a timely fashion.

I have to agree..My dealings with Moon have not been really smooth..I'm supposed to get a 20% dealer discount on items and they keep screwing me..the last time they told me they would send me some Complimentary T shirts to make up for the mix up... that was a year ago!!!!!!!! I never had anything been on Back Order from Moon before to tell ya the truth, usually they are good about having inventory ready to ship.. ebay is a sellers market no doubt..Alot more than when I started pimping shit on there in the 90's..Back then I was one of a few who were pipmping speed equipment on there.Back then I could buy and find great deals on there hold on to it for a few months relist it and make a profit.forget it now..I don't even try it now.Basically ebay is a convenience..instead of getting up a 4AM freezing my ass off at a Swap meet search through lots of shit and junk,I can just find it and buy it..I know I'm paying more than I would at a swap meet but it comes out the same I figure, time, gas money, etc etc..When I want something rare and old that I have been looking for,for a while,I just say fuck it!! I buy it and don't think twice.Sometimes when you try to penny pinch, you end up with nothing at all..thats just my experience...

There are alot of people that pay ungodly amounts of $$ for stuff thats available repro in a catalog. Some want original parts, but I'd guess most don't do their homework or even try to find the stuff on their own. I have numerous requests for little trim bits that are always damaged, and impossible to find good used. Or lenses and rubber seals. All this stuff is repro'd and decent quality. If I was restoring a car I would just buy it new.

As for Ebay killing the swap meets....MOST DEFINITELY!!! Pomona was good even 2 years ago..I used to sell alot, and fill my truck with parts I bought there. This last year, I've bought about 5 little things, not counting all the Hotwheels I buy for my kids...
I'll still go, just not as profitable..As for old cars and parts in general.. The cars arent there..not in the junk yards, not for sale cheap anymore...Yes we all find a goody now and then, but not as often...

Exactly... did you ever see the old fiberglass fans they had back in the 60's most of them were green with a white center..anyways I had one on 57 when I bought it back in 94 and I threw it out, didnt think twice about it..I seen one on ebay go for $75!!!!Alot of Little shit I threw away or gave to so called friends 10 years ago is now worth insane cash!!! That always makes me crazy!!! oh well...maybe the trend will die out and things will go back to the way they were...NOT!!!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

its sorry to say but we all get cought up in the action of trying to get that PERFECT PART for what ever we are building. i have spant more then i should have at auctions and im sure most of us have seen the same. i saw a guy pay 5000 for a 2000 dollar car once but i can say i know why he did only cause of the live auction goiong on at th time.. i gave up playing the e-bay gam of waiting for the last 3 seconds to place a bid and now just bid what imm willing to pay max when i see the item. if i win it good for me if not i did not need it that bad and ill find another

I'm confused (nothing new) The bidding started at $9.99 and these bidders have bid it up to $79 at this time. The seller isn't ripping anyone off at this point. He offered an item, these people seem to want it bad enough to compete for it. If the bidders didn't do their homework, is that the sellers fault? The only one ripping off the buyer is the buyer himself.

FWIW, I've dealt with this ebay vendor (Caroldale) a few times, very friendly, and usually with a selection of cool stuff. If its new, and I can get it from a catalog, I don't bother, but I've seen this vendor offer some rare NOS parts and swap meet finds that shows they've probably done their own legwork.

More power to'em.

I agree with kinky6 Ive bought stuff from caroldale and her stuff is as decribed. They buy out auto parts wharhouses that are going under, and the bidding always starts at a fair price. Besides that My brother just bought a silver flake wheel from moon and the quility sucks the grips coler looks like a superball thats been ran over a thousand times. Just my opinion. John

Hay Kinky
Caroldale is Frank and Carol Schindler, they are good people!
They own a company called Chrome It.Over the years I bought
some very cool NOS 30 year old shit from them.Frank has one
hell of a stash!
They stock and sell all of Moon stuff.Ship it fast,no hassle
All their stuff come beautifully packed too.
They are the best sellers on E-bay and alot of people watch
them,so alot of their treasures get bidded up!
Ask them for thier catalog.

The one that I see all the time is repo of the old turn
indicators.Vintique makes em and they retail for $19.95
I`ve seen several bid up to$35-$50.

Good Luck...JR

I bought this wheel on e-bay last week, for $64.56, plus $12.00 shipping. Total $72.56. Yes I checked MOONs prices before I bid. I have about eight of these wheels, all different colors, three are MOON repops, the rest are originals. The problem with the MOON wheels, is they don't have the spakle of the old wheels. I had an orange MOON wheel (gave it to a friend), a purple MOON wheel, and a silver MOON wheel. The silver is real nice and sparkley, just like an old one, it's in one of my cars. The other two don't have much sparkle at all. So if I want a certain color, and lots of sparkle, I'll pay a little more for an original one. This green wheel, is a real nice olive color. Oh, and it has an adaptor on it, don't know what it fits yet, but it's there. My dad has a pink one (yes pink), in his 40 Chevy coupe. I've never seen another one. He bought the wheel new in the early 60's. It's been on his car ever since. He's owned the car since 1956. Yes e-bay has taken it's toll on the swaps, but for the most part, the buyer sets the selling price. Can't blame e-bay. Dean

Hey Marcus,

Speaking of E-bay, what ever happened to that old gasser that you bought off there a few months ago? That thing was pretty cool.

Dean, Thanks for the Moon steering wheel history. As far as I know nobody bids on eBay with a gun held to their head. If somebody wants an item they will bid it up to what it is worth to them. If this same wheel was at a swap meet for $20.00 you are still out the days pay for going there plus gas and food.
