Hopefully someone is a GM tech or has some ideas from their own experience. I've got a 92 Chevy Dually with the optional Silverado interior (if that matters). It has the electronic A/C, heat and defrost controls right under the radio controls, with electric buttons that control everything. For a long time some of the buttons have been acting dead, they don't work when pressed. Then at times they work just like new without any trouble. The appropriate flaps would open and close to adjust the air and temp like it's supposed to. It was intermittent and good luck as to when they might work or not. It does not seem to be just the switch contact on the dash being oxidized or not connecting.

Just a few weeks ago the whole display went dead, no lights or anything, let alone being able to turn it on and have it blow air.

Questions: 1) any ideas on what the problem was or is now? 2) is there a master control circuit board buried up under the dash that I need to replace? 3) if there is a control board is this available and approx price? I would fix it myself if I can.

Thanks for all the help, I need to get this fixed so I can trailer my just got out of the shop billet laden Street Beast to the show across town this summer http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. It's got so much shiny paint it might get chipped if I actually drive it! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

bttt, help please or any ideas on this????

Is this any kind of common problem? Reason I ask is that the wiper motors control board on these trucks all had bad solder joints and many were replaced. Mine included. Just wondering if it is a similar issue with the control board for the A/C controls?

I know that we have replaced a lot of wiper control modules and not just in full size trucks, either. I wanna say mosdt likely it your control unit itself. I will talk to the shop on this for you and get back to you. I am just a partsman...

I would start with some contact cleaner on all of the plugs. It's cheap and if it works it'll make you feel like a regular McGuyver.

I had a similar problem on my Chevy truck (but it was the headlights) and it turned out to be corrosion on one of the plugs under the dash. Don't know how it got corroded, or why the other plugs were fine. One of my friends who is a Ford tech actually figured it out and fixed it.

I'd bet it's the control panel itself. It's pretty simple to get out, the part with all the switches just unplugs...I haven't had any problems with my '93, but I had it out when I was swapping radios.

The main harness could be corrded also where it plugs into at the base...otherwise, the techs think it would be the main control head. GM part number 15169225...
