Just wanted to stop in & say hello, I'm new to the forum & new to old school hot rods. This past weekend I picked up a '34 International truck that I'll be building a rod out of. This will be my first build up of an old car so it will be a learning experience. I am planning on keeping my costs down as much as possible & trying to do all the work myself or maybe with the help of a few friends in exchange for beer/pizza/bugers or steaks from the grill. :D
My past experiences have mostly been with later model vehicles. I started out turning wrenches on my first ride which was a '79 Chevy truck. I just started off doing stuff that needed to be done & I couldn't afford to pay anyone so I got my step dad to show me....once I got into it though, I enjoyed doing my own work, especially after seeing the crap work that people did for hard earned money....they always say if you want it done right....
Well, some time goes by & I get a '98 Mustang...it was a fun car, but honestly, it was a turd...way too slow compared to the rival Camaro & Trans Am pony cars on the street with similar mods....so I traded it in for a '98 SS & was very happy for the most part. After that I got my '02 Trans Am which I still have today with only 11,600 on the ticker. It's ran high 10's in the 1/4 as a full weight street car with AC & full interior.
As much fun as the Trans Am has been, I'm wanting to build something myself that is what I want and not just something that rolled off the line.
I'll post some photos up when I get home...at the office now.
Well, hope to meet a few like minded folks & maybe see you guys at some of the meets.
Also, if you are in the Houston area, feel free to post up, I'm usually always up for hanging, out turning wrenches, & drinking a couple cold ones.
