Started early being around cars. My dad was a paint and body man in the 60’s. He was always bringing home projects. The one I remember most was the “Chemouth”. It was a clean ’47 Plymouth coupe with a Chevy 327.

I got my first hot rod when I was in high school. It was a’32 Dodge sedan. I put an Olds 350 in it and a Pinto front clip under it. I drove it through college and then sold it back to the guy I bought it from when I moved to Los Angeles after graduation. For a PROFIT!!!

I bought a ’55 Chevy 150 sedan in 1985 while in Los Angeles and still have it today. Drove it daily for 18 years.

My next project is a ’50 suburban that will be my tow vehicle for my most recently completed project, a 1941 Hillegas midget racecar with a flathead V860. I just completed it and have been in some local shows here in DFW.

I’m going to build the Suburban more traditional and will be looking for advice and info on hot rodding an inline six.

Can’t wait for Friday because I’m heading to my first Round Up.

Start your engines!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome speedrome1 The pic of your # 36 is awesome. It reminds me of my first dragster. I bought a hand built 1937 class B sprint car in 1961 for the purpose of converting it into a dragster, which I did sucessfully at the age of 17. This class B sprint was #99 built by Charlie Stevens of Willow Grove Pa. A.J. Watson was the driver. It had a Model B ford 4 cyl, 2 carbs, faibanks mag, dog clutch. All of which I removed to install a 322 cu in Buick Nailhead w 6x2's. In those days we did not think of preserving racing history, hence I destroyed a historical car. The only saving grace is that at age 18 I won two drag track championships with the car in 1962 and won 23 class wins and top eliminators with the car. I probably did more with it as dragster than it did as a sprint. Anyway I salute you for restoring your # 36 Goldy from Philly

Thanks guys.

It has been fun taking the car to shows and listening to the oldtimers tell me stories.

I love these old race cars & all these great cars I see here on the HAMB. What is cool is thinking what was sitting in the parking lot in the late 40's early 50's. What the fans were driving out to see there heroes.

I really wanted to take it to the Roundup this weekend but the schedule is too crazy!

Here is a before and after, showing what it looked like when I picked it up in Tulsa.
