Well since I blew an exhaust gasket out on the 235 in my 51 Chevy I now have an excuse to change my intake manifold while I got it apart. I picked up a Thickstun 2x1 set-up at Hershey and it has Carter WA-1 carbs on it. I was wondering if anyone has run them on their dual set-ups, and if they are a reliable carb & easy to dial in. Are they hard to get parts for?
Also while I'm typing I'll throw a few more questions out there. If I run the thickstun, do I have to notch the support on the firewall?
I'm not dead set on using the Thickstun as I have a few more intakes but I'm not certain which one i want to use. Besides the thickstun I have, weiand 2x1, Edelbrock 2x1, edmunds 2x1, ellis 2x1, mcgurk 2x1, nicson 2x1, offy 3x1 & nicson volumetric 1x1 dual plane. what would you run?
Thanks for any input guys.
Billy
I ran the MCGURK with 81's once, mild cam, and hot ignition. RAN good as hell..
I dont like the CARTER forklift carbs,,,,,
They are a pain in the ass to set up.
I didn't mess with them very much......
I would run the MCGURK and CLEAN up the INTAKE to match ports in the HEAD, make sure the WALLS from SURFACE to SURFACE are EVEN,,, and flush you dont want the GREAT WALL of FRANCO(tm) blocking the fuel to the HEAD.....
Its like a CLOGGED bong....
The ELLIS sets the carbs in a DIFFERENT DIRECTION.. and the CARTERS bolt pattern is SMALLER then the 235 rochesters,,, You can get an ADAPTER no problem,,
With a PRETTY STOCK motor I like to run the LATER rochester SINGLE;s on a STRAIGHT forward THROTTLE,,,
I did it for years when I didnt know how to BUILD a MOTOR, or set up stuff for PEFORMANCE.....
The EDMUNDS is NEAT and Some were set up for 3 bolt strombergs, but some were also set for 2 bolt CHEVY carbs......
Edmunds was WATER HEATED, usually
I like EXHAUST heat myself,
But the OLD STYLED FENTON HEADERS in the ONE PIECE DESIGN for the CHEVY are REALLY hard to FIND these days,,,
NICSON made some BITCHING HEADERS for the 235....
I think the THICKSTUN WATERFALL is a GIMMICK,,,
personally..... I never liked it MUCH...
THE MCGURK is GREAT...
It's SIMPLE.. and it seems to have the BEST RUNNERS for the fuel...
But MOST were for the 216...
EDELBROCK is a SMOOTH one and EXCEPTS the later 50's rochesters... it's simple as hell to set up,
My favorite was this EVANS i got when I bought this 261 race motor in vegas... only evans I ever seen,,,for CHEVY 6cylinder,
This motor was from a circle track car....
I parted it out when I found a BIG crack,,,
I still have a 3x2 EVANS for a FORD FLAT 6cylinder,,,,
It's pretty cool....
Want to trade it for some naked TRIBAL CHICKS,???
germ
You shouldnt have to NOTCH the FIREWALL......
that I'm aware of
