I did it!, something I thought I'd never do. I bought somebody elses hot rod. I've always been a builder. I never wanted to drive "Harvey's hot rod". I have my own ideas of what I like which seem to be very different from most.

My buddy spotted this on Ebay. (by the way I nailed the power plant without cheating http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) The more I watched it the more I lusted. This thing just lights my fire. It ain't chopped, channeled, sectioned or shortened. YEAH BUDDY! I'd have liked it with a 3fiddy-3fiddy but the mill put it over the top.

I offered to trade the sport coupe for it but he needed cash more than another car. So I did what every red blooded American does when he gets hooked at the new car dealership...I borrowed the money!! So that is why the sport coupe is on Ebay with the 32 pickup soon to follow.

It's supposed to start it's cross country trek today. Im excited.

If any of you L.A. area guys are familliar with it or the now deceased guy that built it years ago, I'd appreciate any additional info.

It will be treated with the respect it deserves.

.
Please forgive my lack of will power. For all you gold chain haters, I don't even wear my wedding ring! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif but when somethng comes along that lights my fire, I'll do what ever is necessary to get my fix.

Wow, that did feel cathartic (sp?) Thanks for listening.

PS any suggestions on removing the cowl art without hurting the paint would be appreciated.

Ask the one shot guys... I think that you can use a little mineral spirits or something if'n the truck is cleared....

That truck was at Paso last year. I really like it, and I agree, the engine makes it.

Great move, I hope you are happy with it.

For One Shot artwork removal:

If the paint underneath the artwork is base/clear or a single-stage with hardener in it, then you can remove the art with EZ-Off Oven Cleaner.

Spray it on a rag, then hold the rag on the art. It's best to do a little at a time on a piece that big. You'll see it start to dissolve. Wipe with a clean damp rag after removing a section with the oven cleaner. Repeat until gone.

After the artwork is gone, wet sand with 2000 grit on a block, and hand polish with 3M Fine rubbing compound.

Most of the time, if you omit the last step (polishing), there will be a 'ghost' image left behind due to oxidation of the paint.

If you've got lacquer under there, then I'd be a little leary of using this method, although I've heard of people doing it before.

That truck kicks ass by the way!! I can't say I blame you for picking it up.

Neal does it look as clean in person as it does in the pictures? He drove it to Paso from Arcadia. He said it was a couple hundred miles. It had an adapter to an open drive 39 trans then. It's got a 55 T-85 trans now. It should be a good driver and that is the main idea.

It was painted before base coat-clear coat came along. I'll try some Easy off in a hidden place before I dive in.

Deuce R. I may be able to get down your way without a trailer now. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif unless I'm towing one.

Funny you ask. I never saw it up close. I saw it driving and and then my brothers saw it parked and took pictures, so basically I have only seen it up close in pictures http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My brothers are pretty picky, so if they liked it enough to take pics, it musta been pretty cool. I will ask the next time I talk to one of them if they remember any details.
