View Full Version : new guy in midwest
Been lurking for awhile and finally decided it was time to do a intro. My name is Kurt married to a wonderful woman and have a son. I am self employed, install lawn irrigation systems. Been into old cars and custom stuff for almost 25 years, since i was 14. Painted my own flame job at 16 on my wanna be sled! Born and raised on a farm in Muscatine Iowa. Dad taught me to weld at twelve and nothing has been safe since! Have had a number of old cars and trucks over the years. Currently building a 48 Ford tudor with lots of dreams for other projects. The gaspumps name is i make repro 20's style pumps for garage decorations. Also collect old service station pumps and signs. Restore them for cash to support my car addiction. I have learned alot here in the past, you guys and gals are great! OK intro over now i need to go straighten shit out on another post on this aircleaner for a cadillac lid!

Hello Mr. Zimmerman, you will never know who this is.....
I know Kurt from around town - though I don't think I have ever seen his car(s) I have done business with him. He won't remember my name.
I know him because he is also famous for his X-mas light displays, I'd guess he has about 3+ acres of lighting. Plus his irrigation business is pretty well known. There are lot's of pretty green lawns around town thanks to this guy. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
He also has more antique and reproduction gas pumps/memorablia than you would believe. Cool stuff.
Are you figuring it out yet Kurt?
48 Fords, gas pump signs, landscaping......all clues.

Do you sell old gaspumps or restore or both? I'm looking for an older gas pump, not the real old ones, but maybe the late 50's.

Not too bad.
The sign business is tough in town right now. I was laid off recently. No biggie though. I have been able to help my dad paint cars and do bodywork and such. We are really busy with that. Last year we did 7 or 8 cars (?) - mostly musclecars. this year is even more busy. Three cars in and out already and three more being done now.
I don't know how long we will be working on cars like that, but I hope we can keep it up - that way I won't have to get a REAL job...
I have talked to JC Hetzler, he said he might take me on if he needs more help. That would rock, I have always wanted to learn how to pinstripe and he is so good. I have heard that his wife is a bitch though and to avoid her at all cost.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif Even if I don't actually work for him, I want to see if he'll teach me the striping trade. I have so much sign building experience maybe I can teach him some things too.
My dad said you went by his garage one day when the 48 was sitting out. He said the first thing you noticed was the DEEP ROCK decal on his wall. Kinda funny, you just ordered those from the sign shop that week...lol. The blue was way off so we did a new set for you and I kept the discarded ones for dads wall.
I never knew you were into cars so much. I always thought you were just into antique stuff. I thought the pumps were just your best market and so you just sorts "went with it". You always had old stuff sitting out by your barns and stuff, but I never saw a car.
I am glad to see you found the HAMB. The talent and experience on this board is unlike anything you've ever seen. No billet aluminum wheels and no digital gauges here. It's all good old fashioned hard work and traditional cars built with vintage parts. I think you will like it. Just stay away from the arguements - read them, but don't join them. It's hard to do that all of the time, but it'll save you from getting a reputation.
