Has anybody used motorcycle shocks for the rear suspension.
I ve seen a few with a double set up.
Who sells them?
What are the shocks from and what is the weight rating?
I know they dont look trad but I found a set at a swap meet
for $10.
Any pics of this set up would be cool.
Thanks

Don't do it John, they won't look right IMHO, shocks are cheap man.
Ah ooooooooops a jampot was the nick name given to the shocks on the rear of early 50's matchless motorcycles www.jampot.com (http://www.jampot.com) there may be some for sale and they would look period and cool.Alternatly there is a company in England making repro girling shocks with rated springs i will try to dig out the tel number but you need covered ones really and i did see some vintage pctures ages ago with an A with them on so the idea aint new..........Marq

I`m not using a leaf spring .
I like the coil over idea but Aldan wants alot of money for them .
I built my T 6 yrs ago & tried everything in the rear & motorcycle shocks suck!! I'm running regular air shocks now & they work great.Add the air you want & Viola!! perfect ride. I think they where Delco daytona #935!! I think.took alittle modification but they work!!

Those cycle shocks were coil overs. I am just using them as dampers witht the T spring. You can fine tune the shock by changing Oil wt. These were high end shocks in their day, totally rebuildable. If I need to I willl change the valving. Most people dont realize that a motorcycle has a much higher leverage ratio than cars do. Even Mtn bikes can have spring rates of 900lbs! Most hot rods are what, 400 lbs?

The best coil overs to use are from any Jag Independent Rear. Theres 4 per rear end so get all of them and use a pair for your rod and have a spare pair, or another person may want em. I'm using Jag coil overs in my T-bucket and they work plenty fine. Ill admit they maybe a little hard but not too bad.
