Ok, so I ws on my way to work this morning, as I was getting off the bridge, she started running real rough like the timing was off... wouldnt idle or rev up at all.... So I get it over to the side of the road so I dont die in the middle of traffic and it makes this loud thud. Smoke is everywhere, and by the time I got it off the road it did it again. I jumped out and lifted the hood, the valve cover gaskets and the valley pan gasket are literally blown out of the motor, the valley pan was pushed up so hard that it is dented around the bolts, just like what would happen if you tightened it down WAY too hard. Got a friend to give me a ride home, when I came back with the truck this crazy homless lady was "keeping an eye on it" and told me she'd "say a little prayer" for my car's sake....
So anyway, I havent been able to mess with it much yet, but what do you think could cause this type of thing? This is the first time its been on a hook since I got it in '96....-J.

May have jumped time and backfired or posibly dumped raw fuel into crankcase and ignited. Check oil level and smell for gas (stuck float or needle and seat)......OLDBEET

that sucks, don't know but it sounds like you may have sucked a valve, that was the roughness, then it went through a piston, that blew your gaskets out..

sounds like you'll be needing another old nailhead..

BEETLE, Thats kinda what Im thinking...Seems to me its something like that... Im hoping its nothing more serious but you never know... Im hoping to take a look at it afterwork today.... I'll find out when I open it up.Thanks guys. -J.
