I just bought a 27 T body and frame only with no title or VIN #s on frame or body. What steps must I take at the pain in the arse DMV to get this car registered, once completed? Also what other regulations are there concerning smog, safety equip (seat belts, lights, open engine...etc)?

Thanks for any info on this.

Stamp a VIN on the frame.Get a cop or DMV service to verify the vin.Tell them you have no title just a bill of sale. That will get you a title. If you live in So Cal-PM me and I,ll give you an address of a good DMV service.

A T vin no is on the block, see if you can find a fucked old block.Or find a guy with a T and check his VIN to see how many numbers and mix the No up

Its your lucky day... I have 2 CA 1927 license plates for $100 if you need em... they are clear and ready to Register. Hit me back if you are interested. This is the worse of the 2... can be cleaned up to look almost perfect. The other is alot cleaner.

Look here, I am sure that you can find some "appropriate" numbers. LIke was said, the T had the VIN on the block, there is no frame or body number.
http://www.mtfca.com/encyclo/sernos.htm

Easiest way is to stamp a frame number in your frame and get that inspected. Or you can go to DMV and get a VIN number assigned, that will be by DMV. I would do the stamp numbers and get it inspected route. Whatever you do, go in there and act dumb, smile at the DMV person, and bring whatever paperwork (bill of sale, any receipts for parts - even from another car, they won't know the difference) and then try to get them to help. It's not a fun process, but can be done.

AAA offices in California used to handle DMV transactions for their members . . . very helpful, especially when I had to title my Model A pickup way back when.

If they still do that, it'd be worth the membership just so you won't have to deal with the state DMV offices. They were a royal pain.

Steve.

Thanks, I do have a membership, maybe I can talk to them first and they can help.

Well, my title thru Tony's for my deuce, a REAL frame with REAL numbers and the cop who sits next to me at work signing the verification, cost me almost $600. I felt like I did all the hard work(ie. illegal) and all they did was supply the forms and run thru the line at the DMV. For my super-secret current project Im doing it myself. Now, where did I leave those number-punches?...

This comes up every now and then- based on recommendations from an older HAMB post I am using International Title Service right now on a truck without a title- they title it in thier state and then transfer it back to you.

www.its-titles.com (http://www.its-titles.com)

the prices are listed online
there is also a place called broadway title service online but they were mre expensive.

I want to get this stuff worked out before my truck is driveable so it doesn't end up sitting in the driveway after its all done while I wade through the process. It won't be driveable for a while but when it is - it will be all set to go. . . hopefully
