View Full Version : So, i changed the exhaust on my truck....to Stacks *pics*
I wanted to change the system on my truck. The system that was on it was ok, but i wanted something a little different and louder.
I thought about bed pipe's, and still like the look of them....
But decided on the stacks instead..
I was mentioning to a friend what i wanted to do, and he said he had a set of stacks that were just layin in his barn..
I could have them if i wanted.
KICK ASS! Free pipes http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
He said they were actually '57 Ford drive shafts cut up to make stacks.
I took the Smithys off and ran straight pipe to the stacks.
Right now it's open exhaust.
It sounds wild, but i am making some baffles so when i either go to work at 6:30am i don't piss off my neighbors, or take it on long trips i don't go deaf...
But they will still come out anytime i want.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I still need to finish em...but here's some pics..
(don't mind the rust, i need to touch it up a bit http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif)

I'm not usually a fan of stacks, but that is perfect I think. They match your stacks on the motor and the patina matches the fenders/boards. I dig it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Kool! I'm thinking of doing stacks on my truck when I do the engine swap later...I'm thinking polished s/s 2" all the way.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Thanks..
My main pipes are 2" right up until the steps you see in the stacks..then it 3".
These things are like 3 foot echo cans.. It's loud open..
Two Words......Flame throwers!!!
Love it!!!

Nate, your buddy's truck ROCKS! I like it...
I don't think i'm gonna have them chromed..i can't afford it right now, plus those would be the only parts on the truck with mint chrome http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
I have a friend that does powder coating, and he has high temp stuff, so i may just coat them to match the stacks on the carbs.

....Tony......you need those little "flappers" on the top of them to keep the rain out......... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Guess I'm alone when I say they don't look right. My opinion of course. You like em, you run em.

I wouldn't say your alone...
I'm sure there are gonna be people that won't like em..not everybody digs 'truck stacks'.
Just a little something different for a while.
I'm gonna blow the truck apart in a year or so to go over stuff and make changes.
Hell, this might be one of the things i decide to change..
Right now i like em. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't think so... but you might want a 1/8" dia. hole at the lowest point of the system to drain water.

I was wondering about this same thing for my own project. Was thinking some kind of recess with a drain for Seattle weather but I remember asking my Dad about the rain issue on his Kenworth and why he didn't have those flappers. His response was something to the effect of "real men don't let there truck sit that long with the motor off"... and that a real motor could burn up a little rain in no time.

Its registered as a '34 (I think) but its a total mutt. I forget which parts are from a 34 besides almost none of it. You'll need to PM Tony and ask him what it all is....besides totally cool.
Bigchief.
Chief,
Mine's registered as a '33..but your right, it is totally a mutt http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif..
But i think he was refering to Nate's friends truck..
I finished the fabing for the exhaust yesterday and took it to work today.
I made relatively small baffles the mount toward the top of the stacks..even with them in it's loud http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
you'll hear it tonight at Babs'.
I'm having a ball with this thing..but i think a noise violation ticket is in my future.LOL

My cab is a '34, and the bulk of the rest is model A..
