I know it's short notice, but, I'm going to carve the floor out of this sedan, this weekend, and would share all my beer and venison with anyone interested in hangin' out and lending a hand.

I'm in Northwest Wisconsin, and I have plenty of room for an overnight stay.

Yeah, I believe it was.

I posted a little bit about it a week or two ago.
It had some really spindly hairpins on it, and sat too high for my taste.
http://img51.photobucket.com/albums/v156/junkyarddog32/OldFrontend.jpg

I already re-did the frontend.
http://img51.photobucket.com/albums/v156/junkyarddog32/SideAll.jpg

... and I already took care of the leaf infestation. I was really busy last fall. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Look. There's even leaves in the shop. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I live in the woods... What can I say? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Did you notice my Northwoods, custom, combination buck pole/engine hoist in the first pic?

Shit! I'd love to help but I'm busy this weekend. How about the 8th, I'll even bring my waders and help you but your dock in(under tree hoist,1st pic) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.......Mike

Junkyard Dog 32

That would be great, thank you, but I have plans next week.

And the aluminum dock was a repair job. Some people don't realize that ice blowing across a lake, in Spring, can slam into shore like a train... and their hard earned money will be buying me hotrod parts. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If this thing doesn't happen, it's no biggie. I should have thought of involving HAMBers, sooner.

I'll have to do a HAMB CHOP when I whack the lid, though. And if I'm out of venison by then, I'll just crack this one with a tire iron.http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I damn near had it eating out of my hand, yesterday. It even waited for me to go get my camera.

No, this ain't hunting...
I feed the deer all winter, about a ton and a half of corn (at my expense), this winter was especially bad, so they still need the help. That one did walk right into my shed, where I kept the corn, and was very hungry. So, I scraped the bottom of the barrel and gave it to her. She never got farther than 15 feet away. Once, I could have touched her.
I quit feeding in the Spring, so the does won't drop their fawns this close to the road.
During the worst part of winter, I can have up to 20-30 deer in my yard at once.

Funny thing... I didn't even kill a deer last season. I still had plenty of meat, so I was just looking for a trophy buck. I let dozens of nice bucks go.

I did kill one, a 6-pointer, in the yard, with my bow a few years ago. He wouldn't stop eating my raspberries, and wouldn't even run if I threw shit at him. He needed to be taught a lesson. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Tasted gooooood, too.

Now that summer is getting here, I'll switch from corn for the deer, to kitchen scraps for the bears. I'll post pics.. I've had 6 bears here, at one time, before.
Last fall, I had a 300 pounder walk into my shop, while I was working on a car. That'll test your nuggets! Needless to say, the .44 is never too far away.

That remark just got you Double-Secret-Probation, mister. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Let me set the stage for this remark, so it won't be taken wrong.
Okay... I'm standing right in front of you, and I'm smiling. I'm shaking my head, and I say, "You know, Mike... Your good for alot of laughs, I'll give you that. Why don't you apply some of that energy to showing us something about cars?"
... still smiling... still shaking my head...

I, really, don't have anything against you... I don't.
I enjoy most of your posts.
My brother lives in Port Canavaral. How far is that from you?
If I get down that way, Me, You , and NADS are gonna have to play some "slap-N-tickle" and clink a few beer bottles together.

Love ya, buddy.

Junkyard,

I'm not sure how you were planning on doing your channel, but before you cut the floor out, consider this method:

Leave the side subframe rails intact.
Cut out just the cross-channels and rear floor tin (if any).
From the side, with the frame as far back as possible, diagonally slide the frame up and into the body.
Slide the frame forward until it's in the correct position.
Then bolt the BOTTOM of the frame to the TOP of the subframe.

I've seen this method used on a couple of 32 Coupes and can see some advantages over cutting the floor completely out.
It has greater rigidity, you (or someone else) can unchannel it easier if later desired, and it requires a ton less cutting and fabrication.

And for anyone channeling a Model A, this method should work on one of them as well.

Good luck and post pics when you're done.

That's a kick-ass idea, man!

I'm gonna go out, right now, and check that out. I didn't compare this frame with my coupe frame, but I think this one is pinched at the firewall, so the "insertion" of the frame into the body would be a snap.

Thanks for the post, and if it flies, I owe you one.

Thats how my coupe had been done...at least as far as the front of the wheelwells. The "subframe" is missing from there back...old rust or trimming, not sure which.
When it was all bolted to the bottom and squared up, 4 small tabs were welded to the door post areas and rebolted to the top of the frame to add stiffness to the channel job.
Basic...but tough!
When it was eventually unchanneled, it was just rebolted back on the top of the frame and the tabs were cut off and ground down Some new crossmember pieces for the subframe and it was back to normal.

I always thought rebolting the body to the bottom flange was the accepted way to do a channel!!!
