Has anybody used this paint? I was going to shoot a daily driver and saw this. It appears cheap enough...was wondering if it would last a couple of years. Never heard of the name brand

I'm curious to see the responses this post get's also. The seller seems to have a pretty good feedback rating and seems to be knowledegable aout the product. Looks like an interesting way to get an affordable paintjob.

My stepson painted his Buick with their Raspberry enamel. He said it looked great ...until he went over it with the wrong type clear (without hardener). I bought a gallon of the black for the firewall on the Hupp. I painted it Monday and it looks great but its black and its a firewall so it looks like almost every other one. The paint dried without hardener at 74 degree air temp in 1 hour. Has a nice high gloss finish. As for durability...time will tell but it seems to have bonded well. So far neither a slipped wrench or dropped screwdriver have left a scratch. Wear a good ventilator while painting with the stuff.

In my experience, the "off brand" paints sprayed as well as, and cured as well as their namesake competititors...our theory at the bodyshop was that "Omni" brand paint (a supposedly low quality version of PPG's line) was that it was the leftovers...as in, keg beer...

It sure as hell smelled the same, flowed the same, cured the same, and sanded the same...as the expensive alternatives...it just wasn't as popular because people were afraid of it. We actually switched at one point from using PPG clear ($$$) on everything to the "Omni" version...all the same...and we warrantied our work. Never had a 'comeback' for clear defects - and the Omni clear was about 1/3 of the cost of similar PPG paints...

I'd give it a shot...if you can come up with the right hardners/reducers...and mix proportion sheet...you shouldn't have any issues...but RESEARCH THE HARDNERS and REDUCERS, and use what works for the temp you're spraying at!

After getting over the $535 per quart House of Kolor "sticker shock", this paint looks like a real steal. I was paying $36 a gallon for Dupont Centari 30 years ago, finding ANY paint for that price today is almost impossible. I think that the state of California taxes a gallon of paint more than $35! If you buy it let us know how it works out...

Hey geemann, that copper color would look sweet on your shoebox... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Well, ya get what ya pay for.....

Since this is acrylic enamel, I would strongly suggest springin' for hardener---otherwise, it's gonna fail just like cheap-ass tractor paint.

I use nothing but the best urethanes cause I do insurance and high-end work. I can't afford to do stuff over and it has to last.
But what do I know? I'm earl schieb.......... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Chuck, I'd have to agree, you got me thinking again. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

At the price you could almost afford to do it again if you didn't like it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

whoo-hoo, RayFlex (the brand of the paint)! Actually bought a gallon of silver metallic from that guy, sprayed on a car a buddy was putting up for sale. Stuff sprayed nice... used hardener... see the car around once in a while, still looks pretty nice.
A few rock chips, but they all have dings behind them... so i wouldnt blame the paint... In any case, painted it almost 2 years ago... and it's still got some nice shine.
I wouldnt call it a show-quality finish... but then again, 90% of it seems to be the talent of the painter... talent i dont have.

I'd say go for it! If thats the color you want! Ever try pricing even a gallon of Omni at a paint store! You can alway sand it off. Just don't shoot something else over it, like laquer!

This stuff has been getting alot of action lately. I was looking at it myself just the other day. If you do a google search for "(Hawthorne "Rayflex" Acrylic Enamel)" or "Hawthorne Paint" you will see it come up with mixed reviews. I think that with proper prep work and the right backup materials it would work good on most anything. I will probably end up getting some of it to paint some bikes I am building and maybe for my demo cars this fall.

This guy has quite a bit of negative feedback on his profile. Take a look before you buy anything. I have been burned on Ebay a time or two.

i brought this back up because i am going to paint this summer. this seems cheap, but how much more is omni single stage? how hard is it to paint over if this stuff sucks, will you have to sand the car to primer again? will any brand reducer, flattner work with the is brand?
