It starts Today! I have been going since 1981 and will be headed that way in a few hours. The Texas Motor Speedway near Fort Worth.

I've always wanted to go, but I have never been able to make it over there. Seems like I either lack the money or the time! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have yet to go to the Speedway for Pate. I should be headed out this weekend, I always went when it was actually in Pate, Tx. Never actually completed walking the whole thing, too big too much to see. It was always a blast to wake up early in the morning and start the drive down and of course the spell of the cow shit since it was in a pasture.
I'll be going out there late today and tomorrow, early Friday, and all day Saturday. I'll have a spot to park my car in...stop by and say hey if I'm around.
Pate isn't the same since they moved it to the Speedway, but I think this year will be pretty good with the absence of the Ballpark swaps.
I'm having an after Pate BBQ on Saturday night. I'll start a new post with details and directions either today or tomorrow. I live about 5 minutes from the Speedway.

I think Hershey and Carlisle are still the two biggest. I doubt that Pate is third since it moved for the field. But who knows.

Buzzard is right -- Hershey and Carlisle are the largest swap meets. I read that Hershey is the largest in the world. THE WORLD, BABY!
Ain't we lucky?

Not gonna make it this time. The dates finally conflicted with a concours show I judge every year. Damn, I was look forward to competing with Bass for some extra income.

I'm building a garage, if I go to Pate won't have money for the doors. No self control when it comes to junk. My son & I spent 10 hrs on Saturday last year didnt even cover 1/4th of what was there.

i be in the hizzy friday & saturday.
Went out today after work...there were already alot of people set up. I got yelled by some old geezer for not paying $5 to park in swap meet parking with the three other cars that were there at 5:30. So I just drove into the swap meet instead. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Let's see...I saw a NICE complete '26-27 T roadster body, a decent '32 p/u cab, a pair of bent-spoke Kelsey's, a nice pair of rear '36 wishbones, a decent Triumph tank, a pretty fair old hot rod '34 5W hiboy for $13K, and a bunch of other odds and ends. Unfornately, everybody was pretty much absent from their spaces by the time I got there, so I couldn't price most of it.
Going back out tomorrow after work...

Bass, you know what I need. Keep your eyes peeled and call me if you see one.
I'm not gonna be able to make it but I'll send a runner somehow with some money.
I did find out that the same flywheel fits 67-70, all Buick big blocks.
K&R...there were several guys out there with lots of wheels. If you're talking about the dude that The Hudson Kid knows, then I don't think he was there yet.
Pate doesn't really have an open/close unless you are a vendor that's trying to get in or out. The general public can come and go pretty much 24 hrs a day. Most of the vendors close up shop pretty early (between 3-5PM) on Wednesday and Thursday though.
Phil, I'll keep my eyes peeled. You coming out on Friday or Saturday at all?
Forgot to mention that I also saw a pretty neat Front Engine Dragster. Home-made mid-50's era...drilled Anglia front axle, dual rear wheels, etc.
Having to be at work today as the swap meet is going on is fucking killing me. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Anybody gonna still be there on Sunday? Or is it a waste of time?

buzzard last year on Sunday it was pretty much deserted, mostly large vendors packing up etc although I am sure you could get some deals, even saw some stuff by trashcans. My wife & I rented electric scooters covered all that was left at 11AM Sunday in an hour. Damn sure was a lot less crowded!!

Hey Bass, you didnt see any VW bugs out there did ya? I'm draging a friend with me and I told him there would probably be some?
I know, it sounds gay, but he's gonna bring a trailer and I have a pocket full of cash I need to blow!
I don't really pay that much attention to VW's, but I seem to remember seeing a few out there.

Sounds like there are a couple of good bugs there that Bass wants and he is trying to throw you off track so he can scoop them up.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Hey Bass, were there any hot chicks there? O wait.. you don't notice thise either http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.....
HC
Exactly. You definitely seem to be on to me...did you major in psychology, Jeff?
Or did the 'visitors' tell you what I'm thinking? I knew 'they' installed a microchip in my brain that time I was abducted. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Seriously, I didn't really make any mental notes of VW stuff that was there. But I'm almost positive that there were at the very least some parts cars out there. And I'm always on the lookout for poon-tang. I can assure you that none was to be found late yesterday.
