Hi , all again ,i got my new window channels today the bit that holds the glass to the regulator on the roll up windows. There are no instructions with them so i am at a loss to work out which way the rubber fits on them the bit that the glass slots into has a large lip,now does that point into the car or out of the car? also how exactly does the channel fit to the regulator?the truck is 250 miles away at the moment so i cant picture it.Anyone have any photos?as i can't seem to find a shop manual for a 35/36 pu..............Marq

No experience with pickup channels but I did buy an aftermarket rubber seat for the glass to channel fit. This rubber was designed to have the large lip to the outside of the door, to channel water away from the edge. But the one I bought was too thick and I couldn't seat the glass into the channel. Had to use a normal seal cut to fit from a autoglass installer. The regulator must be cranked to a specific position that allows the arms to fit into the regulator channel. The window can then be turned slightly to install it into the slides. Its a bitch but can be done. I think I spent two days just studying it.
Here's some directions from 40fordguys site not your year specific but related. macs (http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_glassinstall-40-46_pg4.htm)

Yes the lip goes on the out side of the window. When the glass is rolled completely up, that lip contacts the bottom of the window opening forming a seal. I don't know if it keeps all the water out but leaves and dirt can't get in the door.

right ok so now how does the channel fit onto the regulator ,it looks like you get the regulator to a certain point pop the roller things in the runner take the window up a little then pop a small screw into a hole to stop the runner thingies coming out of the channel. There is alsao a piece on the channel that looks like a roundy runner and has a leather washer on?what is that for anyone know?.............Marq

Marq, are you talking about these felt washers?
Its been a while and I am having trouble thinking of a leather washer thingy.

You'll need to start the rollers in the channel before you screw the regulator to the door panel.

I can't remember if the truck has the sliding glass vent system like the cars. If it does, there will be a stud hanging off the bottom of the channel.(that may be what you are refering to) If the channel has the stud, then there is a right door cannel and a left door channel. That stud interacts with the regulator to slide the glass for and aft in the window opening forming a vent.

Tommy, the truck windows slide back about 2 inches before they start going down.

Yep thats the bit you are talking about so the window slides back with that stud thingy. The screw in the channel i take it would go last.Once i have fitted the first one i think i will try to do a tech article on them it may help others in the future...............p.s how does that stud thing help the window go back,i'm confused.........Marq

That stud works with the regulator to pull the glass to the rear (making a vent) before the glass goes down in the door. The glass will roll all the way up before the regulator pushes that stud forward closing the vent. I believe there is a L shaped slot in the regulator that does the work, but different years may be different. The glass channels don't interchange. There is a right one and a left one. The channel has to be mounted on the glass in the correct spot for the system to work correctly. You need to have the channel and the regulator in front of you to figure it out. It ain't rocket science. Just remember that the glass moves forward and backward in the window opening when it's up all the way. It's tough to discribe in words from memory. play with it you'll figure it out

It's kinda a pain to do,but mock the glass with thin cardboard and watch where the channel finds home, mark the cardboard and transfer the measurement to the glass. That way ,when you install the glass in the channel it will be right the first time. I have a 36 pu and this was a real pain to get right, lots of adjusting and re-adjusting to get the glass in the right spot so that the windows go up and down properly.
