I striped this Packard Vicky this week, that's all I got .....would make a nice rod..you could lower it about a foot and chop it about 3", but you'de need some big wheels & tires to fill up to them fenders.

I posted one of my '59 last week before it was done, so here is the un-finished and finished version. The photo of the finshed version has a ton of sunlight reflecting in it which makes it look blue. I need to learn to take better photos. Also, this weeks painting of one of the Indianapolis Road Rockets' cars from the Beatersville show last summer.

Seeing those pics from Django's and Kevin's setup at Chicago WOW! A lot of people cannot deny the effect ww2 had on all post war hotrods and their cars.

I think its very cool and appropriate that builders nowadays are embracing this and making it their own.

Probably the most popular and recognized is the Flying Tigers sharkmouth. I have seen a lot of bomber art placed on peoples rides. The hardest to do and have look aesthetically pleasing .... The sharkmouth teeth.

These sharkmouths teeth have stood the test of time from then till now .
Taken from the RAF tomahawk p-40's in late 41' and some German Bf 110's from ZG76 also had Sharkmouth type markings around this time.

But the guys who put them on the map were the original Mercs--- American Volunteers Group (AVG) who are most famously called

The Flying Tigers

Most of the jackets that had insignia on them from this group were navy flight jackets because those were issued to the flyers in this group .

Here is my take based off the disney Flying Tiger which was a decal placed in the side of the aircraft.

hey Tingler - do you know Peter Saul's work? I was a student of his here at the University of Texas - cool guy - and I really dig his wacked out style - your painting reminded me a little bit of that.

Might be a good inspiration for some of you painters out there - look him up - his kinda funny violent grotesque imagery always paired nicely with Robt Williams or Ed Roth in my mind...

Yeah I know of his work. I haven't taken a look at it in a while though.....time to give it another look.

I became familiar with his work back in college.

Cool stuff.

Nice job on the jacket. You usually don't see art on a G4.

Here is a painting I finished up yesterday. Seems to be a slow turnout for this week. Did everyone get burnt out last week? This is the last for my "grill" paintings for a while. I think I got it out of my system for the moment. I'll post it 2 ways. They are both the same image. I am just doing it both ways so it sticks in the archives if the other happens to die somehow.

Thanks, locab give yourself props too bro, nice composition. Color values are cool.
How many paintings are in this grill set?
I usually go through periods where I just want to find out and paint about one type or style of thing too.
There was actually a lot of artists in the AVG who just wanted to do their part in the war effort ..they knew what was coming.
No usually you didn't see art on Navy flight jackets, maybe patches but back then it was rare , be it a G-1 or a m-422a in this case .
CAMCO procured these for the AVG through the naval department and all their flightsuits were Navy as well.
There are a lot of period photos of just AVG members wearing painted jackets. I think was a reflection on the fact that they weren't really forced to follow u.s. air corps or navy guidelines, they were mercenaries basically.

hey 1 shot, thanks. i always use a ton of refference. usually about 20 different photos. i have several thousand images filed as well as an extensive library. this particular piece i used about 20, but these 3 here were my main refference photos. i used the coupe for the angle i wanted, and the 2 roadsters i stole ideas from. i really like the buick wheels on the one, and i will be doing something with those real soon. anyhow, thanks again.
