OK, for all of those who attended the HAMB drags you know I had a few problems. Here are the findings after a day of snooping.

1. The car had slow 60 ft times- solution- get the car to go into low gear. The shifter had a small arm internally that was off the track so the car was starting in 2nd gear, which sucks because it is a manual valve body. So that is a good thing.

2. Driver had slow reaction times....mostly my fault but I found that the rear drums are contacting ALL the time. I mismatched drums and axles etc. to accept the Olds pattern on the rear end so I never had a chance to clearance them.

Solution...gonna hafta remove some liner material to gain clearance.

3. Throttle cable acting funky- found the cable bracket material was too thin and it was flexing too much Solution- fab new bracket out of heavier material.

Should make a world of difference, so we may take it to the track Friday night for the test and tune.

Didn't get there early enough to see ya go down the track (car problems of my own) but I bet with the problems fixed, you oughtta be able to get it to really haul next year. Thing was bad-ass just sitting there.

Did you find someone to sew up the hole where your ass bit a washer out of the seat when that thing started shaking?.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Are you allowed to run throttle cables - legally speaking?

If so, what's the drill on the manual return bit?
Another cable?

What else would you run?
They frown on mechanical linkage.

Yeah, some of us care! Glad to hear the bugs are getting worked out.....what ended up being the problem with getting the front tires seated?

It's actuall the fact that they don't have a beadlock like the newer type of wheels. We had to polish the inside of the mag and then grease the inside of the wheel with STP combined with 70 lbs of air. Even took it to a guy that mounts truck tires...he said he never had a wheel he could get to center up.....after an hour...he had his first.

Actually, the preferred way is a mechanical linkage or a "push pull" cable... is your cable a push-pull cable?

I can't wait to hear how she runs... the improvements should make a big difference.
Sam.

I used the factory throttle cable for a 97 Chevy pickup.
