someone want to tell us what the deal is on bowling green? looks like they planned it on the same weekend as BTT50s, which really bites. how big is it? how many cars in the races? i think they have a NSS class, perfect for my plymouth, and a few of my buddies from ohio are heading out for that. which is better? BTT50s or bowling green? i love the BTT50s, but i do get sick of the powerparking, and sitting in a lawn chair for 3 days, watching streetrods and ugly beaters drive around. which would you rather go to? I have been attending BTTF's annually for a number of years. I have chosen to attend Bowling Green this year as a change of pace, plus it's closer to home so I can use one less vacation day. The bummer is I'm really going to miss all my MN, WI and Canadian friends that usually only get to see once a year there in St Paul.

I keep telling myself, change is good. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

the minnesota state fair grounds is 14 miles from my front door. bowling green is 800 miles. distance is not an issue though. i would flat tow my plymouth down, like we used to do, and find someone to stay with, or just camp out. the big question is, is it worth missing the btt50s for it?

I'm going to Bowling Green. I thought it looked really good from the pictures I saw last year as well. I hope the Cacklefest is as good as I've heard it is.

Bass, I went last year and had one helluva weekend. Got there early to tour the Corvette plant and sat next to Garlits himself.
The show is awesome and given the town is a car town, the people are very car friendly. Unlike Bakersfield, the track is in a beautifully wooded area, so there is shade everywhere.
The racing itself was awesome. Lots of FEDs and Gassers. Not to give my age away, but I really like the Grumpy Bill Jenkins Vega racing the Gap/(Jack)Roush Pinto (Inspiration behind my highschool V8 Pinto). Seeing the Gassers out of control, swapping lanes, and never letting off reminds me of ....lets say my dreams. And the Cacklefest??? It was unbelievable!!! For me it was cool just to see the stuff I just read about....but for the old timers were actually crying as it brought back memories of their past.
I hope to get back this year.

I forgot to mention that you should pre-register if you are going. Registration was a prime circle jerk. Took me two hours to get thru. But that was the only problem I had the whole weekend.

i went to the hot rod reunion in bowling green last year. i am going back this year too. it's mostly about the drag racing. lots of old drag cars, sling shots, funny cars, gassers. and just regular home grown drag cars too. it was a blast. i watched the freight train make a pass, pure hell, and countless others. the car show was mediocur. mostly street rods and muscle cars, but some cool old hot rods and kustoms. the swap meet wasn't very good, with a few exceptions. winfield and garlits were there.if you get there early enough you can rent a golf cart for the weekend, but they are very popular and don't last long.just talking to winfield and garlits again and watching the sling shots run(which i hadn't seen before) was worth the trip to me. sat night they line up all the sling shots on the drag strip and light them off. you have to witness that first hand to believe it. if your into nastalgia drag cars it's a must see.

With Bowling Green the closest, it's not a choice, BUT if you like nostalgia drag racing, it's awesome. The pits are like the twilight zone. When's the last time you saw at least 6 Willys gassers, plus a few Anglia's? How about two Super Stock teams with 4 and 5 cars each, plus enough Mopars to fill the field? How about flattie and in-line rails. particularly one that had a nailhead powered 27 for a tow car? Or twin in-line Chev 6 and Buick 8 rails? Restored 60's-70's top fuel cars and a couple of floppers? A full top fuel field, all FED's. 3 days of qulifying and practice, with NO lulls like NHRA.
And Cackelfest? Nothing but high energy, unbelievable sight and sound with 16 top fuel cars blowin' fire and clearing 'em out at the SAME time! And that was just the first year. Did I think I was going again? HELL YES!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

ok, now i'm all fired up. it's going to be a tough choice, i'm already preregistered for the 50s, and all my local and not so local buddies will be there. i need to take a day or two at the track to get the plymouth into top tune, and make sure it goes down the track straight. it is quite a handfull on slippery tracks.

How is the traction at that track? and does anyone know if the super stock classes are heads up or on an index? my little stocker 413 max wedge never stands a chance against the big dollar 500+ cubic inch indy head stroker motors that dominate the classes at other events, but we can compete on an index of 12.0 if they have it. i guess nostagia to those guys is pulling out the checkbook and buying the lastest technology, but thats a rant for another post.

i'll see what i can get together to head down there. sounds like a blast

that's about half of the cars at BTT50's !!!.......sure MSRA draws a lot of cars , they brag about 10,000....but most aren't worth looking at and just take up space,i think msra just wants the money . it's getting hard to get on and off the grounds and finding a parking space is terrible....it's not fun anymore

my opinion , if you have the chance to go to something like the event in bowling greeen....i'd go

Better go to BG before EVERYBODY in the world figures out how cool it is and HAS to be there. And before NHRA, the local hotels and restaurants get greedy(greedier?)and charge more. Then there's the traffic snafu that's gonna get worse every year.Do it now and enjoy it.

The "show" is small and mediocre at best, and the swap meet sucked(TOO small), but being able to walk among LEGENDS was worth the price of admission---to see what I idolized as a kid......damn, got goosebumps thinkin about it right now. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Guess you've already made up your mind, so I'll shut up
