New to the forum, so I apologize if this is a silly question.

We are making a stainless steel chassis for a Studebaker Avanti. We have narrowed a C4 Corvette front suspension 3". We now need to narrow the power rack 3" on the inner tie rod sockets, or find a power rack that already has the required width. The rack is a front steer, and the new center to center distance we need is 22.5"

Do you know of a front steer power rack with this inner tie rod center to center distance, or can you give information on narrowing a power rack?

Take a look at this center steering R&P. It’s from an Opel Vectra/Astra from early nineties and are similar to the Cavalier.
You can also find them on mid nineties Saab 9-3.
1” is 25.4 mm.

Federal Mogul used to have (few years back) a book called "Steering & Suspension Parts from TRW" its Catalog #X4000. You can use that as a reference to easily find a rack that will work for you. The cataloges main purpose at auto parts suppliers is to look up suspension parts based on the year/model/make of a vehicle but it also supplies the dimensions of inner tie rod assemblies, outer tie rod ends, and rack & pinion units etc. Plus it lists which vehicles use which parts by part number. You'll need a rack with the same width ball end to ball end as your lower control arms pivot points to avoid bumpsteer. Just flip through and find what year car has the diameter you need and pick one up. Goodluck man!
