ASE Certified hambers?

Got to pondering today... How many of the hamb posters hold an ASE cert? How many I wonder are master mechanics?

I got all my ASE certs (Master Tech) a few years ago. Work paid for them, and I figured with them I can always push my toolbox back into another dealership if things got bad where I'm at.

I had certs in gas engine overhaul, cylinder head specialist, and cylinder block specialist.

I was ASE cert. in auto air conditioning but I believe its ran out by now.

I have the UK City & Guilds in Motor Vehicle Tech, but it was hard to convince the guys over here that they are actually higher qualifications than the ASE ones!

i am ASE certified in Paint and Refinishing. Not a good enough mechanic to get the certificate.

ASE Certified Master Tech here...ran out in 2003...I quit wrenching for a living...the dealership life wasn't for me and independant shops just didn't pay.

I also hold certificates for Ford & Honda Factory Training, as well as Mazda Rotary Specialist.

With my current job...none of my former "certificates" mean shit...now I'm a "Turbocharger Specialist"...

Sorta...LOL! I used to design and write OEM/Dealership training courses that counted toward ASE certs.

They always wanted me to make the courses/tests easier than I'd have liked.

Those of us who designed and wrote the courses had a little saying amongst ourselves...

ASE stands for "Ask Someone Else"...

Back in 1989/90,I was ASE Certified Tri-Master. That meant,Master Auto,Master Heavy Duty Truck,and Master Body Shop.One of like 275 people,in the USA, at the time,that were Tri-Master's.I was also a Certified Master Chrysler Tech. up till 1994.
Ya know what? All those fucking tests,and it didn't pay one more dime at the end of the week.........
Now,ASE has like 25 tests,just for the Auto portion,at 40 bucks a pop? Not counting,the Counter Person Tests?How many truck tests now? Body shop/Paint tests?
It has become a large money making corporation,just like the dealerships themselves.

I have a 2 year degree in Automotive Service Technology
And I am a GM Master...
The pay rewards are not what I would like, but I do get to tell the boss when I come and go... kind of worth it there.

I'm ASE Master Auto here.

At the dealership where I worked, they payed an extra 25 cents per flat rate hour for each Auto cert you have. A Master patch got me 4 bucks per flat rate hour pay raise. The tests paid for themselves the first week.

Certified ( not a master I had no intention of learning auto transmissions or AC ) I'm sure its on the way of expiring 04. Now that I work on bikes I guess there is no reason to renew.

ASE Master Tech since 1973 (A1 thru A8 & LT1 )and just recertified for another five years, Master VOLVO Technician since 1976, Olds certified 1976-1990 and I have all the gray to prove it... H

ASE certification is pretty much a joke. there was a story written on it once talking about a group of women proffesionals. "business not auto" reading the books and taking the tests. All of them passed. Yet never picked a wrench up in there life. Goes to show ya that if you're a good test taker you can pass. Yet a brilliant tech I worked with at one time could never pass. Due to he could't take a test to save his life. "I am factory certified VW,Audi, and BMW through 2005."The dealers that I have worked for care about factory training, not so much ASE certs"

ase master, with collision, parts, smog lic, brake/lamp lic....... funny part is i work mostly on "older" (pre '73) cars/trucks with a few newer ones.

I'm ASE certified in engine repair,brakes,suspension,a/c and also federal & state certified in a/c (mandatory in Wi.) I got my first auto related job 15 years ago cuz the guy knew I worked on all my own cars and asked if I wanted to work for him.NO classes,but he insisted on ASE (for the customers piece of mind)so I took the tests and passed.

Not ASE certified, but I do have certificates from Ducati, Moto Guzzi, & Laverda from the 80's. As well as Dynojet and American Ironhorse. I am certified to do inspections. And I was AMA/CCS (motorcycle roadracing) tech inspector.Doesn't mean much to me. I've dealt with a bunch of AMI grads, most of them are useless. Kinda feel the same way about a lot of the ASE guys I've dealt with. And in the computer industry the certs strike me the same way. I talk to all prospective employees about real situations wether computers or cars or bikes....

I have other I-Car certificates, but I can't remember the others without looking. I feel like I'm filling out a resume'. I own a kustom shop now, so I will be letting my certifications expire. If I ever work in the production industry again, I'll make them pay for my testing.
