This summer we did some gas work on my brother's Dodge Raider (V6/5-speed).... man, that thing's built like a tank! I was oogling the rear end because it's got a neat-o, smooth housing in the rear (I'm used to looking at my 10-bolt which is very muscle car, but not real hot rod retro). It's a skinny rear and probably geared pretty low in that little 4wd. It looks like the pictures I've seen of the Chrysler 8 3/4, I've seen. Anybody know if that's the case? He'll probably abandon it after high-school, so I may pirate the rear at some point in the future.

So, that would make you a "rear end pirate!!"

I don't know if it is the same as the Mistubishi ones, maybe the ones in the Mighty Max were the same. I know that the Starions and Chrysler Conquest had an independent rear. That is the only experience with Mitsubishi rear ends that I have.

This is definitely a solid axle. It's got neat radius rods, too. His is the Dodge version, for what it's worth.

I seriously doubt that it has a 8-3/4 rear.
Checkout moparts.com, there will be i.d. tips there.

I can tell you that it AIN'T an 8 3/4 Mopar rear. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif The Mitsu cars and truck are all Mitsu. Most all of the DSM(Diamond Star Motors) are just Mitsubishi products, built here in the US.
On the other hand,if you can find one that is a posi ,go for it. They ARE pretty much bullet proof. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No, they are not 8 3/4 mopars. They do look cool, though. They must be kinda thin, though. I was looking at taking one out of an old D50 that was aquired cheap, until I found the axle tube RUSTED THROUGH !!!!! The brake backing plates were rusted out too!
I read some where that Subaru and Mazda rears use the same diff. Maybe its an independent mfgr for such things. If thats the case, limited slip RX7s and 4wd Subs should be easy to find in the yard.

They are 6 lug, though... Which I think would look wierd on a car w/o hubcaps... There was a homemade rod on eBay that was on a complete D-50 frame sometime back. I am sure it was a solid frame and suspension, not to mention that they have torsion bars on the front to adjust your high a bit.
