I'm just your average guy, I dig old school Beetles mostly, but also like old muscle cars and hot rods. Basically, if I open the hood and see more electronics than my alarm clock has, I don't wanna see anymore of it.
I'm 2 years in to a 5 year Navy enlistment, and currently I'm aboard the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) on our way to the Persian Gulf for sun, fun, rest and relaxatio....er.... I mean.... supporting the War on Terror..
This is a car forum, so I'll babble some about my car.. It's a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle with a fiberglass 1937 Ford front end. has a 1776cc flat four motor with dual Weber 44's, and more problems than I can shake a stick at :P
When I get back from this deployment, I should have plenty of money saved up, so I'm going to replace the 4 speed transaxle I just blew, with a 5 Speed. Also, I want to rip out the VW front end, replace it with hairpin springs, a shortened Ford I-Beam and disc brakes all the way around. 15x5's in the front, 15x10's in the back with a 3 inch wider-than-stock rear fender and old Ford taillights. Front fenders are coming off, and of course, I can't leave out the Shifter which goes to about the middle of the windshield, topped by (what I want..) a Pin-Up figurine wrapped around the top of the shift rod, or (what I'll accept) a bust of Cthulhu as a shift knob. yea, i'm a bit of a weirdo :P

There's a lot more I want to do, but I'm going to aim with just making those changes for now..

Well, It's been a long assed time since I checked this.. mostly because I don't own a hot rod, per se.. but i figured i'd post an update in case anyone gave a shiat what's goin on..
I just read my first post, and about half of what I was planning didn't happen, but a LOT of stuff did and 3 months later, i'm still stoked about the results..
I did get discs all the way around, but instead of a 5 speed, i got a "Freeway Flier" 4 speed. i've got 15x5's up front with 15x8's in the rear, and instead of the Ford front end I kept the bug beam but put an extension piece in to push it 10" forward. the Extender also lowered it 2" and I have 2" dropped spindles for a total 4" drop on the front.

Finally got around to changing the exhaust and shocks as well so now have brand new KYB-GR2's and a "low-mount dual glasspack" exhaust.

and because this thread is useless without pictures:

First a couple of "Before" shots:

So yea, there you have it. oh and for everyone who thinks it looks stupid.. don't worry, i know not everyone shares your opinion... ;)
