I know it's ben posted a thousand times, so I figure 1001 won't hurt..

I have a '52 Chevy 4door sedan. I'm taking my new/old set of springs down to the shop to be reverse-eyed and de-arched. Doing this and to the extent that I want them lowered necessitates not just a c-notch in the frame, but a full on up and over piece.

I remember seeing a set of "C-notches" that could be welded fore and aft of the cut, then the frame cut and the plate welded in to finish off the job. Was I dreaming? Has anyone else seen a set like this and if so, where did you get it, did you like it, how was the installation etc etc etc.

I know I can get creative and fab my own up, I was just hoping I'd seen an easy solution somewhere...

I just did a step notch on a '50 Chevy that I airbagged for a customer. I used some premade plates that welded to the sides of the frame, then boxed the top in, cut out the original frame in between, and boxed in the bottom. We got them at a shop that does air bags on trucks. You can probably check with some local shops that do bags and see if they have the plates. The shop we got them from in town is Ekstensive Autoworks, you can find them in Truckin Magagazine. Hope that helps.

That shop is Ekstensive Metalworks in Houston and those guys are as good as you'll find anywhere. If you go there they can show you how to do it first hand. If you look at www.suicidedoors.com (http://www.suicidedoors.com) they have lots of dirrerent shapes of notches ( round, step, triangle, ) If you are not worried about it looking as slick you can do what everyone used to do and place a peice of 2x3 or 2x4 thick wall tubing on top of the frame, use 3 or 4 inch plate ( we always used 3/8 thick just to be safe ) on the sides. Cut out the notch and cap the ands with more plate. Doesn't finish out as nice looking but is plenty strong and cheaper to do. We put this kind on my brothers 49 dodge cause there was no way to see it. Most of the time you can used 2x2 thick wall if you don't want the notch sticking up through the floor as much. You can get it like 5/16th wall which in a car is more than strong enough. Minitruckin will probably have the most advertisers for notches.
Hope this helps.
