Hi Fellas..
Steve Kennard here. Im a 44 yr old gearhead grew up on a my dads carlot in Ypsilanti Michigan. That doesnt make me smart or special http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif..spent most of my life as a machinist, fabricator, painter, an car nut. However, I was a nurse once.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif Anyway, I have been disabled from an exploaded back for ten years now. I can hobble my way around the shop and have finally gotten the courage to try a "rat" type build up. Being on disability (which I thank god and country for) this will be a very low budget build.the frame, body and suspension will all be handbuilt. Im leaning toward a smallblock auto set up. I can no longer drive a clutch..Engine will be ford or GM this depends again on cost and availability. The rear will be a four link using a 9" ford. Im lookin for dependability and fun.
Now my only trepidation is how will I title, register, and of course insure a "fun" rod. If anyone has done this in Nevada or has any tips as how to get a legal Homebuilt on the road. I would greatly appreciate the advice of the gang. The car style have in mind will be a version of a T-bucket or track type roadster. I may lean toward a 32 highboy look as well..The four link may prove to be a pipe dream. a leaf spring rear set up may be the way to go if I clone a highboy. Im in the design phase and dont mind wasting a ton of paper prior to welding and fabing...I MAY BE PARANOID. but I think the legal end of puttin the car on the road would be a good place to start..hate to build something and not be able to enjoy it..thanks again...Im new here and feel like a kid in a candy store....great site..
