I'm one of those people who never has any luck, but yesterday I was at a salvage yard getting some parts for a customer vehicle and I get to talking to another customer. We start talking about hot rods and I mention that I'm looking for a body for my Model A project. He tells me about his brother's neighbor who has some sort of early Ford body behind his house. Says he'shad it a long time and never done anything with it. I get directions and go over to the guy's house. He says that he'd probably sell it but its not a Model A, its a 32 roadster. We go into the back yard and underneath a tarp and about 5 chevy P/U hoods is a roadster body. Both doors are on it and the windshield stanchions are there. No deck lid but both back fenders are on it. Someone's removed the firewall but he says the guy he bought it from has that piece. He'll call him. I ask him what he wants for it. He says he'd like to get the $200 he paid for it back. I'm picking it up today!!!!!Moral of the story: Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and then.

Roadstar, Have you got a crystal ball? Mine is showing the same image as yours I'm sure. Just last week I went and looked at a '32 roadster for $175 (much cheaper than this one) and the only thing wrong with it was someone had keyed the whole side. Told the guy "not interested", but would reconsider if he had it repainted and replaced the Ardun with a SBC.

no one, I mean no one leaves a 200 dollar 32 roadster behind to get the next day. I could be in the deepest part of the fucking Smokey Mountains and I would sleep in that fucking car before I left it behind. Although I will say I have heard stranger things..... but not many.

I'm having a hard time with this one myself.

Well....roadstar and I both know of a similar instance that just happened to a good friend of ours,...found a Deuce 3-winder body and doors in an abandoned garage in some nasty 'hood in Detroit,...

First thing I said when I heard about it was "BULLSHIT!!",...but, it was true. I'll talk to him and see if we can't get some photo's...

right Rudy?

Well Pancho......

I hope it is true.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mr. Moore, we do not know you and so you have to understand that when you find one of the Holy Grails of Hot Rodding for 2 hundred dollars.......there will be a little scepticism.

A decklid will cost you 3 times the purchase price of the body.....and firewalls are out there.....

Good Luck with your FIND .

But you will have to show some pictures to gain credibility.

Well guys, I'm pretty new to Fords so if I bring this SOB home and its an "A" instead of a 32 will I be shunned? I'm just going off what the seller is telling me so when I get it home this afternoon I'll post pics and then as the bard said" The truth will out". I don't think I can go wrong on any open top 20's or 30's body for this price, period. Do you?

roadstar
04-25-2004, 05:04 PM
Yes it is true. Randy and I do know a person in the Detroit area that FOUND a 32 3 window in an abanded house in a ghetto area of the city.

So I told myself I would never be skeptical again when I hear stories like these.

Butt is is obvious here I'm not the only one with some doubt.

So lets see some pics and yeah, whens the fricken party http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well, so much for my BIG SCORE! Got this sumbitch out from under the huge pile of junk and guess what. It ain't no 32 roadster! As Forrest Gump said" I'm not a smart man" but even I could tell it was a cutoff Model A coupe. You guys will laugh your asses off when you see this POS I dragged home. It's rougher than a stucco bathtub. Someone bobbed the rear quarters and built a gawd-awful roll pan. They tunneled two tail lights per side. Guess what they used for the tunnels. Tomato cans! It's covered with house paint, the cowl is missing, they chopped the doors, no trunk lid, one bobbed, mashed back fender, etc. But on the bright side I already have a frame to put it on. What ever I do to this thing has got to improve it. There's nowhere to go but up! To all the skeptics who responded; you were right, I was wrong. But I'm not going to stop looking! Yesterday I spotted what looks like a complete Model A tudor sedan out behind a shop in a neighboring town. Also a 70 Chevelle, 62 Tempest 4-dr, 60 Catalina htp and a 57 Buick sedan. That old shit is getting scarce but its still out there. Now, let the derision begin.

Well, guys, I've been trying to figure out my wife's new computer and as you might guess..... I'M TOO DAMNED STOOPID TO SEND PICTURES! I've been working on the "lil douche coupe" aleady. Good name, huh! Especially since I took such a hosing on this deal. It's just a hacked up modelA but I'm seeing possibilities. One thing about it, no matter what I do to it the car will be better than it sits now. This will be a good place for me to practice my metalworking skills and try my hand at some fabrication. This thing is very incomplete. Is there a way to ID this body without front fenders or a top. I understand that 28-29's are different from 30-31's? I've seen a few of these coupesters on this board but not in one place all together. I'm really going to need help with making this hack job look presentable. Any info or things you learned the hard way doing your coupester would be welcome. I'm enjoying the HAMB big time. It keeps me humble and reminds me not to take things too seriously.

04-29-2004, 12:03 AM
28-29s have a narrower cowl with a rather pronounced inward swoop beginning where the windshield posts would be to the front of the cowl. 30-31s don't taper nearly as much from the a pillar to the firewall. I'll see if I can find some pics...
