I been lurking for a while and decided it was time to jump in.I'm 43 years old and work as a bodyman for a local transit company.I'm a third generation car freak as my grandad had a model t mercury speedster and my dad had a 33-3w and 35 roadster back in his day.One of my big influences was a Toronto area car club now defunct called the "Forgotten Rebels".They were hardcore old timey back in the early 80's. I've been collecting parts for my 32 3-w for longer than I'd want to admit but I've been pretty lucky scrounging some rare stuff. My ardun heads were dug [litterly] from an old racers junk pile in southern Alabama. My kinmont set-up came from horse trading with a buddy in Wash.I'm hoping to run the ardun with a 3 duece Austin intake through a 37 lasalle box with a torque tube to the quick change.Plans for the body include a healthy chop with raked posts;no fenders and black paint someday.

Welcome from Nova Scotia !!
my 32 5w coupe went to ontario in the early 60`s
sure woul`d like to know what became of it.it
was channeled width of frame, cycle front fenders
rear fenders turned back in the wheelwell and front
edge cut off.the rear fenders were moulded to the body.
it had 56 ford pick up steering and stock grille shell
dropped down ahead of the cross member.dropped front axle
and front spring eyes reversed by local blacksmith.i took
the nailhead and cadlasall trans out before i sold the car.
(still got the eng. and tranny)it was balanced by Rossini(?)
brothers speedshop in toronto.if this car sounds fimilar i
would appreciate a email.sorryy,I didn`t mean to hijack your
intro.Again welcome;I like your gear. Chris

Hey scruff, welcome aboard from another Canuck.
I get a strange "stiring" in my loins every time I see Ardun heads.

I don't think so couper but maybe we chased the same parts at Waterdown. Here's a shot of my heads when I found them.It came with a Hilborn set up and a Kong distributor[no cap], 3/8 stroker and Wilcap main caps. The old racer I got it from was a great guy and said he bought it all from C-T in california in the late fifties.

Welcome scruff! Wow, I didn't guess there were any Ardun heads (or Kinmonts...and QC) within a hundred mile radius of me!! That is SERIOUS scrounging! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Not surprised all that took you awhile to gather together. (Hell, I just turned 50 and STILL scrounging for my first one!...no garage even, just now.)

Looks like you're well on your way to one of the baddest old style rods north of the border. (Geez... 3W deuce too!) I think Brush (in Mississauga) is building a 3W too.

Great build you got going there. Love that frame table.
PM me if you need some flatty parts...4" crank, bearings etc.)
I'm in Guelph. (Still haven't hooked up with Sport.)

Keep posting on your progress. -Keith

From one 32-3W guy to another, Welcome aboard!

Thanks again for the welcome guys. As to the story of the heads, it all started back in '97. I was about to go on holidays and was planning a trip out west to scrounge for tin; I came home and there was an interesting message on my answering machine. In a real deep southern drawl the guy said "Yeah I saw your ad looking for Ardun heads and I know where there's a matched set if your interested." I checked the phone number and was stumped as to how this guy saw my ad because I thought I only ran it in Canada. It turns out he was calling from Gulf Shores Alabama. I feverishly called him back and he informed me that he knew of an old racer who had these heads but he would only sell the whole motor. He told me he wanted $1500.00 and would I still be interested. You can imagine my answer. I set out two days later in my pos '86 Chevy pick-up. By the time I got to Detroit the truck was running 3/4's to boiling, and the fact that this was in August didn't help. I decided I couldn't turn around so I drove with the heater on and the windows down the whole way. When I got there my contact guy informed me he really didn't know what Ardun heads were and had tried to interest some local early V8 guys but nobody believed his story. The next day we met up with the old racer who told me he ran the heads in a '34 and '40 Fords and had lots of great memories. He also told me he had been a good friend of Fireball Roberts. We dug the engine pieces out of his junk pile and then went inside for an ice tea to relieve the ninty-five degree temperature. My contact guy refused to take a penny for a finders fee and showed me real southern hospitality. The trip home was uneventful except for getting food poisoning in Birmingham and being laid up worshiping the throne in Cincinatti. Altogether probably my best field trip ever.
