This is the only car I really dug at the show...

A real surviver.

Funny thing about this guy is that I asked him all sorts of questions about his car and his standard answer was "Oh, I don't know. I had a guy do all that for me."

A 1940's "Gold Chainer"?

Nice roadster! Sort of sounds like he was downplaying it (makes sense, I guess, if he wasn't the one who built it in the first place). At Redding events last week I just didn't get why some owners downplay interest and compliments from others. How could one get sick of that?
Nice roadster, though. Got any other pics from the show?

Hey, I get that a lot from people everywhere. "I got it like that" or "I had them do it for me". Even the Editor of a popular Rodder Magazine did it to me once! I hate that!
That's a cool 32 are people going for the Barn Fresh look more thatn ever?
We need some Barn Fresh Custom done up too.

Sorry for the reply delay...

He was not minimizing. You'd have to be there I guess. He had no idea what cam was in the engine. He said he had someone build it that way in like 46. He said he had a guy do the body work and paint it.

Also he got the car pretty much the way it sits. He said he had a 5 window that bot burnt in a fire and this guy wanted to trade him for the roadster so he went for it. He said he didn't really like roadsters.

He never told me if he still didn't like them 50 years later...

You'd have to talk to him. He had this weird "I'm not a hot rodder" attitude. Almost like he was too good to work on them himself. I kinda picture him like the "bad" guy with the 50 Olds Vert, in "Drag Strip Girl."
